Left salt compartment lid open in the dishwasher whoops- damage caused?

In my haste to use my new dishwasher I inadvertently either left the salt compartment lid off or didnt screw it on well enough. Two washes later and moaning about poor washing performance and residue inside the machine I've noticed the lid was off!
The salt indicator light is on as its obviously dissolved all the salt in there, what I worried about is whether im likely to have caused any damage to the machine?

Run a hot wash straight away with the salt lid on properly to stop the salt from corroding anything. I doubt there would be any other damage caused if you only used it a couple of times like that.0

Don't use seperate salt and rinse aid just use the Lidl's W5 All in 1 Dishwasher tabletsDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

We dont fill the salt thing up, we leave it empty and ignore the light.
The tablets we buy have salt already in them...0 -

But the salt is meant to be in the water softener part not in with the wash?
I always think separate salt, rinse aid and powder are cheaper than tablets and give a better wash.0 -
Thanks everyone, the inside of the machine looks clean and residue free so hopefully I've got away with it!0

The salt is to regenerate the water softener in the dishwasher - putting salt in the tablets does nothing except make the wash water slightly salty !!
You only ignore the salt low light if you have a stand alone water softener.......................0 -
Should be no damage to your machine, looks like you would have very poor or no fresh water rinse after wash has finished.
Please check local water hardness and compare with machine manufacturers recommendation reference using Salt in Softener compartment. There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -
