Direct Debit

I set up a new bank account with Santander using the switch service, and when I checked online all my direct debits from my previous bank are on my account.

A direct debit was due to go out on the 23rd to Blackhorse (car finance), but when I checked it hadn't been debited from my account. I spoke to Blackhorse who said it had been "requested" on the 23rd, and I spoke to Santander who confirmed the direct debit was active.

How long does it normally take from a direct debit being requested by a company to it being debited from my account? If my repayment schedule is for the 23rd of each month will I get a late or missed payment on my file as the payment still hasn't been taken?

Thanks

Collection must be made on, or immediately after (within 3 working days) the due date.
Service users often send their BACS file weeks in advance, especially where the amount collected monthly remains constant, but the collection date is as advised to you in the advance notice.

Who have Blackhorse attempted to collect from? Santander or your previous bank?

And then what happened? Did Santander decline the payment? If so, why?

So have you asked Santander why the collection from Blackhorse on the 23rd was not paid in line with the DDI set up and now lodged with Santander?

    What was their response?

I asked Santander to look at my account and they just told me the direct debit was active. They said if Blackhorse had asked for payment on the 23rd it could take a few days to be processed and debited from my account. I'll give them another ring today.

So you had the answer all along?

Were you just testing us or summat?

As already advised to you, if collection was due on 23rd, Blackhorse have up to and including Monday to actually take the payment without incurring the risk of a valid indemnity claim.

I thought direct debits where instant, Im quite blond! I just wanted to clarify how long "a few days" is, and wanted to make sure I didn't get a late payment charge as it has passed the 23rd and technically I haven't paid it. I'll check my account on Monday and make sure its been debited. Thanks!
