Back boiler to combi with fireplace removal

Has anyone used BG for boiler installation and were they any good? I've got someone coming next week for a quote to replace my back boiler with a combi. It's not included in the list of things they do but has anyone had their fireplace removed by paying extra cash to the installation guy?
I know BG will be more expensive than buying a boiler myself and paying someone to fit it but I don't have that kind of disposable money at the moment so am hoping to opt for finance. Are there any other companies anyone has used that also offer finance?

An independent fitter will probably be 1/2 to 2/3rds the price that British Gas charge.
The fire surround and mantlepiece are usually screwed to the wall with 2 mirror plates, one each side, and are easy to remove (with some damage to the decoration) once all the boiler/fire gubbins is taken away.
Always get the fitter to supply and fit the boiler so that he is responsible for the whole installation and can't pass the buck in the event of any problem with the boiler.

Are you having another fireplace fitted, or are you just blocking it up?
I cannot see BG taking the old BBU out and removing the fireplace and bricking up for you, even as a 'Foreigner' The number of times, my guys have gone out to houses, who have had combi's fitted, only to find that the BBU is still in place, the liner still down the chimney and all they have done is cap the pipes to the old boiler, is ridiculous.
I would seriously suggest going to your local independent CH engineers and getting them to give you a quote. You will find them cheaper and should know what to do with the old BBU. Don't let anyone leave the old BBU in place. It will cause a lot of additional cost, if you want to either brick up, or get a new fireplace fitted.0 -
