I don't have a favourite brand and price-wise I own everything from Barry M to Chanel. I think your application is more important than brand. I also find there can be a lot if variation within a brand. I have OPI polishes that are a dream and some that are just awful to apply.
Colour-wise I love pinks that have a grey or beige undertone as they are so pretty against the skin and feel very grown-up. I have an Essie one called Eternal Optimist and it is so flattering.0 -
Red - try other colours from time to time but always go back to red.0

I quite like opi ones, I have a few from sets and they seem to go on nice. I love glitter ones for summer holidays but they are a beast to remove!
My favourite colour is a pearl white one by opi I think it's called Kyoto moon or something. It's lovely with a tan, on its own or to soften a brighter colour by using as a top coat.
ETA its Kyoto pearl, discontinued nowBossymoo

My colour choice varies depending on time of year & occasion. I wear lots of nude polishes to work. I love glitter polishes but they are hell to remove
Love OPI & Essie.0 -
I don't have a favourite colour, but Orange and Yellow don't suit my skin tone, otherwise anything goes. When I first started being super interested in nail polish (over 10 years ago) the budget brands did not have good pigmentation on the whole and needed lots of coats to achieve bottle colour, so my main ones were OPI, China Glaze, Zoya and Essie, at that time I imported lots from USA. I also now buy the newer UK brands of Nails Inc, Leighton Denny and A-England.
A couple of people have commented on the difficulty in removing glitter polishes, if you have 15/20 mins to spare, try this method, it is great:-
I wear a lot of glitter polish as it does a good job of protecting my weak nails from knocks etc, but it is a cinch to remove.
The failsafe method is, set aside 15/20 minutes, cut cotton pads into 6 or 8 segments (depends size of nails), cut some strips of kitchen foil about 6cm x 10cm. Soak pad in remover, put on nail and wrap up tight in foil, when you have all fingers cocooned in shiny little parcels relax for 10-15 mins, undo parcel, slide pad from base of nail to tip and virtually all the polish will come off easily. I did this yesterday on:-
2 coats of Nail Envy, 2 thin coats OPI polish, thick coat of Nails Inc glitter (plus bits I had to touch up), 1 quick dry top coat, it came off so cleanly, just a quick swipe over with a clean pad and I was ready to manicure. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Currently: OPI Roadhouse Blue on toes, and a very pale pink (only just not white) on fingers - can't think of the name off-hand (ha!)[0

Barry M Silver Foil is my favourite.

I love metallic look colours. Favourite brands are Barry M and L'Oreal0 -
Revlon red, but I mainly wear coloured polish on my toes. I do change it up occasionally, especially with Maybellines new gel polishes.
I prefer foils on my fingers for events.
