Unrequested building work

I have been letting my house through an agent and there was some required brickwork on both party walls. One more urgent than the other. I agreed with the agent to arrange fixing one wall due to costs. When the bill came it was for both walls. I have established that the work was necessary and the agent has conceded that it was the builders fault - it might be their fault but there is no way for me to know that. Its not crazy money and true to the original quote but the agent has asked me if I will pay all or part of the unsolicited work. I suppose this is a moral dilemma rather than a legal one. Its something that needed doing but something that i couldnt/cant afford.
Im interested to see what anyone thinks. I think its fair to pay some. The extra total cost is about £450.
