In Credit With Ex Utility Provider
Back in December I switched energy provider from Npower to First utilities and just over a month ago I was emailed a final bill from Npower, which told me I was over £300 in credit. I left it a couple of weeks to see if anything arrived in my bank account, but nothing appeared, so I went on their website to see if they would give any indication of how long it would take to have my money refunded. Their website explained that they owe customers £3 million in credit and they are owed in excess of £6 million (not my problem) so it would take some time before I see my money. They have had my money for nearly 5 months now, which I think is totally unacceptable, is there any way I can pressure them to release my money, I sure they would have not waited 5 months for me to pay my bill and I need the money more than them. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I've looked all over the nPower website and cannot see any indication suggesting customers will have to wait for monmey they are owed after switching supplier and a final bill has been produced.
Perhaps you could be so kind as to point me in the right direction?
Or perhaps not, as a £3m net debt in the simplistic figures you indicate (and without me acknowledging whether or not these are even correct) I think the typical £350m annual profit the company will make puts the odd million or three into insignificance.
Simple question: Have you asked nPower for the money yet???
If so, then raise a formal complaint - you'll get your money pretty sharpish and in any event within 8 weeks as the company knows you can then go to the ombudsman which will cost them at least £500
Or if you are the type who is just out for themself (no idea what would give me that impression) then a LBA giving them 14 days to pay. Then raise a claim online and you can ask for 8% annual interest to be added until such time as they do repay in full plus interest and charges owed.
Will we be seeing your success in court over nPower in the press?
350million to 1 says we won't ... as long as we exclude the Beano or the Dandy0 -
Interesting.
I thought this would be another first time post and run event ... but I see the OP actually came back at 4am today ... but didn't post a response.
