Can anyone give me any ideas / inspiration for wedding favours?

We will have 35 guests and ideally don't want to spend more that £2 pp

Thanks!

I bought bulbs which I will put in little organza bags as 'grow the love' packs and also plan to do a donation to Cancer Research and get pins for everyone. I have done packs for the kids including some treats (but not too many as I have a diabetic nephew and its unfair to give him more than he can have) and some bits they can do at the table..

  • I wasn't going to bother as I think they are a waste of money but at the last minute decided to put a creme egg on everyone's place setting, they loved them! Packets of seeds might also be cute...

Favours used to be the 5 sugar almonds which represented something (can't remember).

I dread seeing the favours now as it's just another piece of tat to cart home.

Yes it is. It really is. From a guest's point of view it's just unmitigated TAT.

Please would everyone just STOP with the over priced nonsense...

Worst one I have is the "bag of stuff" - here's a penny for er something, ditto the pebble/eraser & lord knows what else was inside. Clearly the bride had been flogged this tat by the wedding venue person as had she been of sound mind she would not have touched it with a bargepole....but you can picture the scene.....here's an organza bag - lets fill it with crud to remember your special day...

ok - this is the closest thing I could find...the "bag of happiness"

I'm having homemade skittles vodka shots and homemade tablet. I know most of my guests will have these polished off before the day is over so no need for them to be "carting home useless tat" :rotfl:

Aha I never thought of the hassle of taking them home...tbh I see the point your their in a dress and a small bag and your given something to look after...

I have been thinking of just doing fudge or something so I will def keep it to something edible or drinkable so theirs no ' I have to carry this round all night?'

A local charity or hospice near you might do lottery tickets like these.

My local hospice does lovely ones, personalised too.

Favours used to be 5 almonds bundled in tulle or gauze - one each to symbolise Health, Wealth, Happiness, Long Life and Fertility.

I think the lottery tickets for a charity are a brilliant idea, if unrelated to the original custom.

If you want favours, may I suggest getting photos taken as guests arrive at the reception, then getting them printed, framed & wrapped during the meal & distributed after the speeches? I know I'd value a photo of my family all looking clean & tidy & cheerful & wish the bridge & groom fervent best wishes for the 5. May be just me, though.
  • Firstly, don't have favours because you think you should - have them because you want them. Otherwise it's just a waste of money.

I am thinking of doing tea and cake for our favours - slices of wedding cake and a teabag with a tag with our initials and wedding date (which I will make) in old-fashioned sweet shop-style striped bags in our wedding colours. My alternative idea is to use those red jelly heart sweets as you can get a massive tub of those relatively cheaply.

Doing something tied in with your theme could be a good idea; for example, my sister had a seaside-themed wedding so we were given foam shrimp sweets and sticks of rock as the favours.

Also a small note for anyone planning any kind of alcohol as a favour: check with your venue about their rules on opening it onsite. I've heard of cases where the bride and groom were hit with £8 a pop corkage charges because guests opened the mini bottles of spirits they got as favours at the reception venue - not a pleasant surprise!

Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")
