This is why, when I used to sell, I sent EVERYthing by recorded delivery. Chances are that she didn't get it, but she *may* be scamming you. You will never know. (Unless you go wait outside her house, and see if you can see her wearing your dress LOL)

Learn from this. Send by recorded delivery from now on.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Sorry but that is absolute tosh, Are you honestly suggesting that you would spend an additional £1.10 from your profits per item for an unreliable serice that in many areas will not protect you from a paypal claim ?

The OP states this item was £5 including postage- so she probably made less than £2 after fees- and you are suggesting she wastes a further £1.10- possibly taking her net income to near zero? If you believe everyone is a scammer then I would suggest you stay away from any form of distance selling.

I am sending approx 300 items a month at a value lower than £20 at the moment. 300 x £1.10 would cost me £330 out of my profit  Proof of postage covers me on those items in case of loss anyway - but I do use tracking for higher end items- I have 2 Myhermes going today due to costs as they give me £50 of insurance as well as tracking for £2.78 (items less than 1kG). I also have a special delivery item going, unusually for me, as it is very light but breakable and so I prefer to pay a little extra to Royal Mail rather than MyHermes as it is over £50 in value.

Just remember that getting a buyer to open a case now is an immediate defect, and a small seller only needs 5 defects a year (which includes certain low stars etc) before they get suspended.

Is there any other way to resolve the issue and get a fee refund though?

You can try a mutual cancellation as long as you choose one of the options that does not end with a strike.

It's all a gamble now- and some sellers, including myself, would probably not waste a defect on 50p worth of fees- but it is all a personal choice.

I assume I'm missing something here but how do postage costs come out of a seller's profit? Doesn't the seller (now) pay a little bit of the postage costs received from the buyer, to ebay?

It looks like you are missing quite a bit. Recorded delivery for a £5 item is a waste of time and money for all concerned.

Where else does postage come out of?

buyer buys a £5 BIN inclusive of p and p (as per the OP) if seller sends 2 nd class at let's say £2.80 he/she will obviously end up with more profit than if they spent £3.90 for signed for.

If you are suggesting seller increases the BIN to include the £1.10 to make their item £6.10 then they would be competing with other sellers only, charging £5.

Don't forget as well that the £1.10 will also cost you an additional 11p in fees so your item now costs £6.21 .

Buyers buy by price , we sellers can't hide £1.21 so that buyers can't see it.

That's got nothing to do with the (benign) question I asked.

    I wasn't suggesting anything.
OP has never been back to thread and from her post, she says 'around £5 inc. p&p'. Presumably she meant £5 in total (inc. p&p) to buyer - OP didn't specify whether she had listed with 'free postage' or whether she had specified a postage amount and that, added to item price, totaled about £5 and I assumed, perhaps wrongly, don't know as she hasn't said, that OP had done the latter. Therefore I just didn't understand (in that case) the bit you said about the postage coming out of the seller's profit, as buyer pays for postage and seller now, since ebay change, just pays ebay a little bit of that postage amount to ebay.
    Sorry, was an innocent question!

Sorry I don't explain myself well sometimes.

Yes buyer pays for the item and postage, whether that postage is included in the item cost or a separate charge. If buyer has say a budget of £5 total for the item and postage and seller is using signed for them seller is paying out £1.21 more from that £5 than a seller who is only using standard postage.

Or if seller is going to raise the price of their item to cover that £1.21 then why would buyer buy from them and not a cheaper seller. seller A has item for £3 plus £2 postage, seller B has £3 for the item and £3.21 for the postage - which would most buyers go for?

The other drawback would be that the higher the postage charge the more like.y a seller is to get a low star , and the dearer item will be lower in Best Match so may have less chance of selling anyway.
