Garden Landscaping

Just to say this thread isnt about wether i can afford it or not, its about where to draw the line ?

I have had a couple of quotes recently to get our back garden landscaped, now this includes 60sqm of limestone patio, astroturf, and timbertech decking, i havent received all the quotes as yet, but its looking like it may be in the 20 - 25k region.

we have no plans to move as only moved here 2 years ago,
what i wanted to know was if you were planning on staying in your home for years to come, would you pay out this kind of money on a garden.

I really want to go ahead and get it done, but the cost of it is scaring me that i am just throwing my money away..

what would you do if you had the money sitting there to be used ? would you do it ?

They sat you should spend as much on your garden as you do the kitchen.

£25k is a lot of money. Whether it is worth it for your forever house, is something only you have the answer for.

It's definitely worth getting three quotes at that sort of price level.

that's sounds quite a big budget and quite a large area to cover - but I suppose depends on what you've spent on the rest of the house?

Id probably want to see a small extension or summer house for that kind of outlay..

thanks for replying,, we have probably spent double that doing the house up, i didnt realise the garden would cost so much, the 60m2 of slabs are coming in at £6k (including VAT), the timbertech decking is obviously at the top end of the decking market but comes witha 25 year guarantee, does not warp, splinter, rot etc..

We dont really need an extension, or a summer house, however we do want a nice garden to enjoy the few summer days us scots get.. but that looks like it comes at a price.
I knew i had expensive taste but not that much.
I dont think we are being ripped off with the quotes, i think that is the going rate for a quality landscaper (i,e, £100 per sq m of hard landscaping)

Anyone else got any comments ? Anyone else spent that much in 1 go ?

Sounds a lot to me. I guess the thing is with extensions/house improvements is that you have to spend a certain amount. With a garden, there are more options for doing it cheaply which could look equally good if you think it through carefully

The limestone patio will take some up-keep it doesn't weather well especially black, it fades out with sunlight so will need colour resealing to keep it looking good, it's the bane of my life I now hate the stuff with a passion
