I would prefer it if theme parks had 2 adult prices (maybe with different coloured wrist bands for each). One for people wanting to ride all the rides, and a cheaper one for wusses like my husband, who's only role in a theme park is to hold the bags.

For our family theme parks and many other attractions work out quite expensive, due to only having 1 child, and therefore not being able to make use of most family tickets, and buy one get one free isn't as good a saving when there is an odd number of you.

Brilliant ideas. We take my MIL who's over 70 and never goes on any rides yet has to pay the same admission as those that do. Worse still, we likewise have only 1 child. So there's 4 of us, but we usually can't get any deals as they're usually 2 adults/2 children, in fact we pay a lot more and use fewer rides. Wrist bands for "entrance only" as opposed to "rides" is a real potential winner for theme parks to get more "observers" in who'd spend on drinks, meals, souvenirs etc. We've definitely decided not to go to some parks because the cost is just too high for the relatively few rides we'd have.

You could argue that a 12 year old uses the same as an adult, but where does it stop? a 6 year old on a bus using a seat alone should that pay the adult fare? you could argue that a 6 year old sits on the parents lap, but what if the parent has a smaller child on their lap.

At 12 they are a child! they don't go to theme parks alone. They tend to do with a full paying adult, these places are expensive enough for families to go to they do not earn a wage therefore cannot pay themselves.

What would be a good idea as suggested aboue is to have a ticket for someone who just wants access to the park and not ride. I do know a few parents who would be happy to take their children and just watch without riding, it would make it more affordable for all.

Well my 8 year old often eats as much as me, so that makes sense.

I always though the New York deli that I frequented when I visited my cousin had it right for food charging. It was all based on weight, whether eating in or taking out, at the same rate. The weight of the plate over the weight of the plastic container covered the eating-in cost.

LOL i thought when i first read this (quickly) that its based on weight was that they weigh you on the way in and on the way out....:rotfl:

What makes you think children should be cheaper than adults using the same services? Bus companies do not have to offer cheaper fares. They do (in general) but don't have to.
  • Didn't Alton Towers used to do an OAP ticket? I'm sure they did, but that could've been some time ago now.

Gig tickets - they don't care how old anyone is when it comes to price. Yeah some are over 14s/over 18 but everyone pays the same. No child rates for Disney on Ice (which made it prohibitively expensive for us ) :(

And festival tickets! The last one we went to was free for 10-and-unders... you can imagine the number of "big for their age" 10-year-olds there :rotfl::rotfl:

ps your username made me lol!
