Nice to see some new faces on board. Thanks for your encouragement barbarawright, much appreciated.

I went out today and did day 2, I was out of breath on the warm up walk but I managed to complete it so another tick in the box. Didn't want to go again of course, it was cold and windy but I got myself out of the house a bit quicker than last time with all doors shut :D. Day 3 will probably be Tuesday after work.

I definitely won't be getting too ahead of myself, if anything I may repeat week 1 as I think I may struggle to move on with the extra running already, does this sound like a good idea or should I be pushing myself and just get on with it?

If you manage it then don't repeat it. Save your 'extra week' for a harder week as you go along in case you need it then maybe? Take your pace down a notch if you have to.

If I'm gonna incorporate Biking on my running. How will I do that... I'm pondering on doing Triathlon eventually...

I won't repeat week 1, I've remembered that I'm going on holiday in nine weeks so I want to try and get it done and dusted before then as I'm away for three weeks and I might not get the chance to do much when away. Grit teeth and get on with it!!

Edited to add, it's actually 8 weeks on Wednesday until I go so I'll need to get a move on! I guess I'll just see how I'm getting on nearer the time, I'm sure I'll be pleased with whatever level I've got to at that point and I can continue with it when I get back, I don't have a specific deadline in mind anyway, just to get through it.

Well yesterday didn't quite go as planned. The weather was awful in the morning - ridiculously windy - so the run had to wait until the afternoon. I intended to run 5k but only managed 2. It's really getting me down that I can't do 5k consistently. My husband runs too and says that it's normal to have off days, and that I should remember that four months ago I couldn't even run for 60 seconds, but I hate the fact that I'm struggling so much.

I have thought about upping my distance as lesley74 suggested but I'm really pushing myself just to get to 5k, I'm not sure I can go further at the moment.

On the upside, through the exercise and healthier eating I've lost nearly a stone and a half. I'm now within a healthy weight for my height and fitter than when I started c25k in February.

Are you using a garmin or gps on a phone or anything when you run? I bet you're starting out too fast. Try going out for a jog and telling yourself you're taking your pace down and trying a distance goal at a nice easy pace. Do it in reasonably calm weather. I bet you manage fine and it will also spur you on.

I'm doing a 10k race this coming Saturday and I've only done a 7.5k and an 8k this year (along with several 5k's and shorter). Hope I manage ok. Target is under 1hr 10 mins. Will let you all know how I get on.

I'm also maybe doing a One Mile race tomorrow night. I did a trial for it and it was really hard! Hard to get pace up and keep it up for a whole mile (which is 9 1/2 minutes to me!)

Yes I use the S Health app on my phone. Tracks my running using gps. I run twice round my local park - the first third is slightly downhill, the second third flat and the final third slightly uphill. I usually hit 1k at about 7 mins then get progressively slower until I reach the downhill section again. After that it's just a case of holding on until I get to 5k, again getting slower as I go round. Either that or I'm half dead at the end of the first lap so have to stop like I did yesterday despite going at the same pace as normal.

Good luck with the mile. That sounds easy until you think about the fact that it'll probably be run quickly as it's only a short distance. As for the 10k, I can only dream of entering one at the moment so I think you're fantastic to be able to do so.

Depends on the triathlon distance you want. Most triathletes have a "weak" disciple and you tend to find that's the one they wimp out on training for. For a good triathlon time the bike is were you'll make the biggest time gains, more so as the distances increase.

I alternate my bike and run days, but do at least one brick session each week. That's a cycle followed immediately with a run. You really need those sessions, as even for a commited runner the sensation of trying to run straight off the bike takes a bit of getting used to.

I'm trying to work out where your problem could be in comparison to my own runs. I think it sounds like the uphill is maybe killing you, given you said that you did 2k and stopped, and that would be on your uphill section? 7 mins is good for your first km. I try to keep slightly under that, but for my 10k my target is going to be just shy of 7mins for each km, giving me under 1hr 10.

Anyway, is there another route you could do that has no hills? Or another thing to try is do some bigger hills, then the hill in the park will seem like nothing?

I'm glad you're using an app so you know what your pace is. I was worried you were going too fast at the beginning. Could you maybe reign it in to 7.1 for the first km, then you'll feel better for the rest? If you're slowing down consistently it sounds like your stamina is struggling, so maybe if your speed came down for a little while it would help. Another thing that should help is interval training, or even just try a shorter run occasionally, 3km, so one lap of the park and then a slight overlap and walk back? When your on your third km you might be able to pick it up a bit knowing you're nearly done?

Do you have a local Parkrun? I strongly suggest trying it. If you're struggling during a Parkrun you're less likely to stop, there are folk there and you'll be more determined. You may even find some other runners the same speed as you to get some training in.

cottyh24 - or maybe a steak might help haha. Just realised your the other Veggie on the Vegas thread!! I wasn't noticing your username earlier!

Try running in Vegas heat then you'll be able to do anything? :P I've seen people running out at Red Rock before and always wonder how they do it.
