Cats dental and kidney problems discovered

So... Teddy and Fred are going to have a dental - sometimes in the first half of May.
Luckily they are both insured with PetPlan and just got a reply re pre-authorsation of the claim I will be making (expensiveeeeeeeeeeeeee) and it was approved.
Very worried about them though.
Teddy is almost 8, Fred is almost 4.
Teddy's teeth were always weird, his front bottom ones grow kind of horizontally, they are tiny you can hardly even see them. The rest of his teeth are similar. He is flat-ish faced and always had weird teeth - never stopped him eating but they need attention.
Fred got a lot of tartar but THIS cat has NEVER EVER eaten any dry food, only wet so no wonder.
Fred breathes weirdly too, snores a lot so I worry about anesthetics in his case.
Fred panics o each vet trip - foams at the mouth, pants worse then a dog with his tongue hanging out etc etc.
Oh dear....
Waiting for the vets to let me know when the "best cat vet" is back from holiday as I want her to sort my boys out.
Anyone's cat had a dental recently?
Sighhhh

My little guy had his dental last year aged 14 - with elevated liver enzymes and an arrhythmia. He was fine.

Hope it all goes okay, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Sorry GR, this is one thing I have absolutely no experience of.
I am sure they will both be fine and sporting Donny Osmond style smiles after the work.:D0 -
So I dropped Teddy and Fred at the vets this morning and got a call back from the vets around 4 pm.
Teddy all fine, had one tooth taken out and the rst cleaned, woke up ok and stays overnight just to be safe.
Fred - blood tests came up with kidney problems and so did urine tests.
Vet asked me if I am sure Fred is only 4 yo - he is as I had him from a kitten. Also - I left some food for them (animonda carny) and vet asked if Fred eats a lot of dry normally - no he does not. Actually Fred has never ever touched dry food in his life. Ever.
Vet asked if he has been unwell - nope again.
So really baffled.
They did not do his dental as did not want to put him under anesthetics, they put him on fluids today and overnight and I will pick him up tomorrow together with Teddy.
Fred will have an USG on Tuesday and repeat blood/urine tests on Tuesday too.
Fred eats/drinks/behaves normal, never seen him unwell (apart from when he was a baby and had problems with his poo but that s long gone), never seen the vet apart from his boosters, his coat is shiney, he is the right weight etc - this came as a total shock.

The only thing I can think of is that Fred stresses a LOT on vet trips.
He pants like a dog, foams at the mouth and generally stresses himself out of his mind
Could THAT affect his blood/urine results????0 -
aw hun,I wish I had the answer for you,
I had my 16 yr old girl in a few months ago and she had all her teeth out except 4 little front teeth at the bottom, she was fine and still eats biscuits without a problem,
Im sure this is just a minor niggle and all will be sorted,
hugs,

Thanks - I was worried about dental and never expected anything to come up with Fred's pre tests

Got both of my boys back at home.
Fred was hiding God knows where till now.
Teddy got antibiotics and some pain relief liquid to put on his gums - twice per day both.
Fred is going back to the vets on Tuesday for US and blood tests/urine tests repeats.
If results point to kidney problems again - will have to move all of my 4 boys to renal diet s can not imagine feeding one separately from the other 3....
But really hope those were some false results for Fred

Ohhhhh GR - really hoping Fred's results are better when he goes back
Is there anyway you can start trying to move their food bowls apart and gradually separate their feeding areas?
I know it sounds a total PITA but if one (touch wood Fred is fine but it might happen at some point in the future) has to have a prescription food, you really don't want the others having it as well if they don't need it

Thanks - I hope his results were false for whatever reason but if they were correct and he does need to go on renal food - I will move all cats onto renal.
Spoke to the vets about it, they said it won't do any harm to the rest of the gang to be on renal so that is the way I would need to go.
Fred is so greedy - he always was that feeding him separately would be an utter nightmare as he always steals from all the other cats,,,0 -
Our elderly Angel had 3 teeth taken out recently after what seems to have been an awfully long time of very bad breath....it cost us about £ 70 and she recovered brilliantly, gaining weight within the OP and the check-up 10 days later. I can definitely recommend having it done, even without insurance (we couldn't get insurance as Angel is a rescue cat of unknown age).First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0
