Help setting up electricity with eon

Just moved into a small 2 bed flat 11 april all electric, phoned eon to set up electricity and we ended up being on the phone for almost an hour and i still don't think i have what i wanted.

I've just had a letter today saying we have agreed to make regular payments to my account.
1st payment of £89 is due on 1 May 2014
We received a payment card and we'll get a statement each quarter or 6 months

That seems high aswell as my kwh over the past 4 days has averaged 7 which works out roughly £40 a month

Is this basically a (massively overestimated) direct debit of £89 that we pay over the counter with our card each month??

What i want is what i had at my old house where i got a bill after 3 months, split the money halfs with my mate and went to the post office with the bill and paid it and got a discount if we paid early.

What should i mention when i phone them tomorrow because after an hour of asking for that i still didnt end up with it.

Thanks

A DD is not a payment card.
With the warmer weather, your usage will be quite low now. In winter it will soar to far more than 7kWh per day! You cannot possibly heat, hot water and power an all-electric property for £480 pa-it will be at least double that. Your monthly payment should be one twelfth of your annual billing, so from now until October you build some credit for the winter.
Is the metering E7 or single rate? If the latter, it will be even more expensive.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Thanks macman :D

It sounds like we've calculated the payments to cover your consumption throughout the year, although it's not a Direct Debit.

It does mean you'll build up some credit through the summer months and this will then go towards the larger winter bills, so spread things out a bit for you.

You might like to have a look at paying with a Direct Debit as you'd get a cash adjustment for this.

The best thing to do at the moment, is to register your account online, you can then keep your eye on your bills, usage and payments.

You can also pop your own reads on and check you're on the best tariff for your needs.

Let me know if you do need any help from me though :)

Just wondering because a friend in the same block for the past 2 years is paying a 49 a month DD heating on almost all the time even now. I'm a tight !!!!!! with the heating and lighting lol. Just seemed massively excessive to what i've paid in the past.

A lot of websites saying the uk average consumption is 9/10 units a day even this wouldnt make it £89 a month. I understand bills go up in winter, but i get my bonus payment from work then, so i could afford to pay my large winter quarterly bill off and have more money for holidays in summer when i hardly have to pay anything.

Can i not receive a quarterly bill in the post in stead of being on a regular prepayment plan

    Yes, you can.

You don't have to have a payment arrangement set up all. You can just receive your bills either online or through the post and then just pay it all in one go.

We call this 'on demand' as you just pay on receipt of the bill.

Just make sure you keep up to date with the meter reads and make sure the bills are charged to the accurate reads.

You can pay this way online, at the post office, over the phone etc.

    Hope this helps
