I was due to swap my electricity account over to BG last July 2013 however it has taken until today for it to finally transfer.

A long story short, the first 3 months there were numerous promises, mis communications and technical errors from their side to transfer the account over.

When initally request of the transfer over in July, we wanted to take advantage of :

1. Direct Debit Discount
2. Dual Fuel Discount (Gas has always been with BG)
3. Price Freeze deal
4. Phone calls that cost me 8p a min via mobile

However after the 3 months of paying variable rates with EDF we thought it was best to continue to hang on until the resolved the matter, which we didn't expect would take 9.5 months!! (during this whole duration we missed out on all the discounts and dual fuel packages).

From the the 3 months onwards I escalated the matter to director complaints level and again one of the senior managers got in touch, promised 5 transfer dates and each one kept failing due to technical issues on their side.

I made it clear to them that if it weren't for the fact that they offered compensation from the begging at the 3 stage mark and continued to do throughout, I would have simply left them.

So now I have finally both my Electricity Account and Gas Account under BG, how should I go about the compensation.

I feel they need to take into consideration the variable rate I was left to pay on EDF from July till date.
They also need to compensate me for all the hassle (over 30+ emails, 30+ phone calls and plenty of personal time wasted sorting this all out).

Any advise on how to approach this?

Thanks

BG duel fuel discount is £15 per year, so that is £12 for you. What tariff should you have been on? if you look at that vs standard rates just work out your difference maybe they will give you a gesture of good will.

Number is a free phone? DD discount again can be worked out with tariff rates difference
