My bas***ding Humax PVR!

Suddenly lost the recorded programme list. Did a google search and seems this is due to a corrupted file. The only resolution is to format the hard disk. I've done this and now the bas***d is showing capapcity as 150gb instead of 250gb. Any suggestions, anyone, please?

Try a further reformat? Then a factory restore followed by a software update.

Could be a problem with the hard drive. As it happens I'm currently awaiting a replacement drive for my Humax Foxsat HDR, due to bad blocks. Unfortunately, you have to get a bit techy to test for them. Fitting a new drive is quite easy though, especially if you've no recordings to copy over. How old is your machine? Bad blocks is a common problem when drives get to 4-5 years old but also happens on younger ones.

Done a couple of formats and a factory restore before posting. Can I do a "manual" software update? Thought it only did it automatically when Humax transmitted them.

Its probably that old. I did the format and took losing the recordings on the nose as I didn't want to have to take out HD and install it in PC to use the HumaxRW (?) facility. However I've lost the recordings and also 100GB HD capacity!

Since I got it I have had Sky installed (and also left them) but I do have the satellite dish still and the 2 cables into the SkyHD+ box which I hardly ever use. How happy are you with your Humax Sat PVR as maybe will end up with one as a replacement. The current one is just Freeview, not even HD.

My suggestion would be to have a look on either AVForums forum, or possibly on the DigitalSpy forum, or both. I don't have a Humax PVR (just a no-name Turkish one), but there are some very knowledgeable people on there that seem to have come across pretty much all common problems.

I have two of the latest Humax Freesat PVR boxes. HDR-1010S/1TB and I am very pleased indeed. They come with a two year on site warranty from Humax UK.Great piece of kit. Setup was easy, two wires out of my SKY HD box and in to the back of the Freesat box, it found my wifi and the On Demand and catchup services were working straight away. It does everything I need, pause live TV, record, series link, HD the lot. Ive dumped the 70 a month SKY contract so this will pay for itself in 5 months. I should have done this ages ago.:)

I've had the Foxsat HDR since it first came out and I'm very happy with it, like it a lot. Not having STV HD has been a minor drawback for me but it's to finally appear on the EPG next week. I've installed the custom firmware which I'd say is well worth doing if you're at all techie-inclined, and could have "manually" added STV HD to the EPG long back using that, I won't bore you with the reasons why I didn't do that.

I'd add MyHumax.org to that list, I've gotten some great help there recently.

You can download the latest update as a file that you put onto a USB stick.

I take it your Humax isn't connected to the net? There was an OTA update earlier this month. If you are connected and it did update that may be the cause of your problem, if something went wrong with it.
Manually loading the latest one from the Humax site might solve it.

Many thanks for all your tips/suggestions. Will do the manual update first off and see what happens. If no better then will likely upgrade to one of the freesat ones. What is difference between the FoxSat and the HDRXXXX models?
