How many people back up from laptop to external hard drive, leave them on the same desk, then are astonished to discover that Mr Burglar fancied the look of both of then?

Or leave them connected and discover that Thor has zapped both of them with one of his thunderstorms?

    Indeed.

My backup is encrypted external hard drive that sits by the PC for convenience, plus encrypted NAS drive in a different room, plus encrypted Dropbox storage for the key stuff, plus encrypted portable drive I store in a locker at work.

People might think that's paranoid. I think it's not paranoid enough - because of the 12 hours a fortnight my 'offsite' backup is back home for updating. I really ought to pay the £85 odd for a second drive to rotate.

Unless you put that into context, it really doesn't mean a lot. Obviously you have a bit more than the average user would want to back up.
If not..............You are being Paranoid IMO, but, if it makes you sleep better at night, all power to you....;):D
