tax problem for ETFs and many index funds

There's a potential tax issue for investors in funds and ETFs that are not UK domiciled. This would include most ETFs and is quite common for index funds, including most Vanguard trackers.
If you hold any of these outside an ISA or SIPP and you don't know about "excess reportable income" (and not many will), you need to read this new Monevator article: http://monevator.com/excess-reportable-income/comment-page-1/#comment-638420
If you invested through an IFA, they should be dealing with this for you, but I'll bet that some are not. Check.
