CCJ reissue confusion

Hi all,
Please direct me onwards if this is in the wrong place.
I discovered a couple of months ago after applying for a mortgage that I've had a CCJ registered against me in November 2008. This was completely unknown and luckily it drops off my file this November.
This was registered to an old University address and I've had no paperwork or any other contact. I've now finally found out what the CCJ was registered for and I'm just going to have to bide my time and wait.
After doing much research via this website and others I'm left a little bit confused. I understand the concept of statute barred and how it works. I'm confused to if this automatically applies though??
Also, Are CCJs automatically reissued or is the balance wrote off? I'm in the position where I can afford to pay it off (Even though I feel I don't owe a penny of this money). But it is pointless paying if the CCJ isn't able to be reissued.
Can someone please clarify? I think I've read too much information and got myself a little twisted.
Many thanks in advance, :T

Hi
A debt that has a CCJ will never become statute barred. It is never written off.
But a creditor has 6years from the CCJ date to take enforcement action against the debtor. After 6years if they wanted to enforce the debt (appoint bailiffs/try to go for an attachment of earnings etc) then they would have to go back to court for permission to do so.
But even if they did get that permission the original CCJ date would stand and it would not reappear on your credit file or the register of CCJs.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for that.
Ok, I understand they can keep chasing me for the money after the CCJ has expired.
Just to confirm, Can I have a new CCJ issued for the same debt or can the expired CCJ be reissued? Or anything like that??
Thanks for your time.0 -
Hello there,
They cannot sue you again - therefore it cannot be 'reissued'. The old CCJ still exists although it will never reappear on your credit file. If they wanted to take further action, they would need to apply to enforce the original judgment - and as Tixy has mentioned, this would be quite tricky to do. The courts generally only allow six years for enforcement.

Ok, Thanks for the reply.
I basically signed to go into halls at University and ended up living somewhere else. I had informed them of the change but they issued all paperwork and chased me at the address I hadn't moved into.
I've just received this in an email:-
'For your information the debt outstanding from your accommodation from 2007/08 is £2166.45 which will remain on your account until fully paid. The main issue here is to prevent additional costs and a further CCJ if this matter is not resolved between ourselves.'
From what you're saying this is just hot air?
I wish I'd had the opportunity to defend myself in court over this but hey ho.
