does any one know why aldi stores dont have baskets and why they have less than half the staff to the amount of checkouts

No idea
they must think it encourages you to spend more fill the trolly!
As for the staff well I work in a shop and the owner hates to see people waiting as she feels they shouldn't have to wait to pay her money, shame other stores don't feel the same.:mad:Remember every waking moment is a chance to turn it all around.;) Knowledge is the key to respect.

Have to admit when I use them they have very few checkouts and always busy but you never have to wait long due to the efficient way they deal with you, hats off to them hope staff get rewarded for being efficient and always polite0

Why are there no baskets at Aldi?
To have both baskets and trolleys only adds to the costs which leads to higher prices. Trolleys are easier to use, and with our £1.00 deposit system are less likely to go missing.
Why are there so few staff?
Our stores employ the “Fastest Friendliest People in Retail”. Our intensive training programme ensures all our staff operate at the highest standards, at all times. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

The aldi's store I use in Glasgow has always had baskets since it opened last year.As for few staff, any time a checkout has a queue of about 6 people a bell rings and magically someone appears at another checkout.
Keep up the good work Aldi's.0 -

When I asked, I was told there was no demand for them - which of course is complete nonsense.
There's an Iceland store next to our Aldi, and the baskets from Iceland mysteriously find their way into Aldi.Stompa0 -

it may be a good idea for aldi to consider a till area for people with less than so many items as it can be really infuriating when you only have 2 or 3 items and have to wait behind a queue of people with trolleys.
with regards to baskets it seems to be a false economy because people i have spoken to say they have stopped shopping in aldi because they only want a few items and find it frustrating 1. because of waiting in a long queue of people with trolleys and 2 because it is putting shoppers off buying what may start out as a few items to maybe increasing their shopping habits to buying a weekly shop there as although it is nice to see a store with a variety of products many people have never tried some of these and in the area i live there are quite a few pensioners on a budget and they just want to pop in on a daily basis and buy 1 or 2 items which makes using a trolley inconvenient.
just a few tips that might help increase profits for aldi after all tesco seem to be doing pretty well and if you see the amount of people in their stores with baskets its probably half of their customers and no company can afford to turn that amount of business away surely.
also its a bit misleading at the store i visit where the carrier bags are at the side of the counter stating their prices varying from 3p to more and i have observed many people being infurated when they come to pay only to realise the prices are put here but all the expensive bags are placed along this area and the 3p bags are kept at the end of the till where the person serving you distributes them i have witnessed some people stating they dont want any bags because they feel they have been misled by this arrangement which then causes a sense of mistrust which then looses customers.
hope this information is helpful as im sure it would be in the best interest of all concerned if aldi could create a win win situation. The average woman would rather have beauty than brains,

This never seems a problem to me, if I only want a few things a nearly empty box always seems to be available on one of the shelves and I use that instead.
In my view these stores have the right ethos, keep costs down, reflect this in the prices yet still provide good products and polite service.
Whilst on the subject of small quantity purchases, I have regularly been asked by shoppers queuing with trolleys to nip in front of them. Proof ,if any was needed, that polite and thoughtful people shop at Aldi & Lidl. So thanks again to everybody that does this, it is appreciated.0 -
I use Aldi regularly. At times it has been annoying with no baskets but to be honest I usually find that even just a few items are easier in a trolley.
Service with a smile and very efficient here too.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030
