Opened laptop this morning to see a big AVG pop up saying I have infected files. I clicked on 'protect me' then ran the suggested scans. Long story short, after a while I suspected this was not an AVG message but some sort of malware.
I've now uninstalled AVG & downloaded a free version of AVAST (to give me some temporary protection.
The problem is that I now can't open outlook 2007 to check my emails. No error message, it just won't open at all.
Opened google chrome to come onto mse website & got a message saying my browser isn't supported, looks like an old browser.
Can anyone help me to fix these two problems, please? I need my laptop for work

Have you done a full scan with Avast to find out if there is anything nefarious going on in the system.
Might be worthwhile running a scan with a dedicated Malware detection and removal software such as Malware Bytes or Spybot to see if there is anything going on behind the scenes.

When Malware strikes the first things that go are your browser and email clients. Usually access to any of your Windows functions goes as well.
Give them a try and see what happens.0 -
Start/system restore
Go back to a date before the problem started.
Note- This will also undo the changes you made yourself.0 -
Thank you both so much for the quick replies. I had already run a virus scan with Avast (which was fine) and the problem was resolved after running malwarebytes.
Hopefully problem is now fixed & the protection installed will prevent future issues!
Can't tell you how much I appreciate your help though!!! :T0
