John Lewis - Faulty Ipad

I bought an Ipad from John Lewis in July 2013 and it recently developed a fault. I took it back to the store - they looked at it and said it would need replacing and that I could leave it with them and they would have a replacement within 20 working days for me from Apple or I could take it to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and they would replace same day. I asked why they couldn't replace it and they said they didn't have stock available. They said that realistically I would have a new one in the next 2 weeks. I was busy that day and opted to leave it with them.
Having heard nothing and over 2 weeks having passed, I called them on Monday to ask where it was up to , they called me back yesterday to say they had sent it to their repairers and that there had been a breakdown in communication with them and that they needed my apple id and password to deactivate the findmyipad app. I refused to give my personal information to them and to cut a long story short they found a work around with me going online to do this.
I am not particularly bothered whether I get a new Ipad or a repaired one but I am going away this weekend and really wanted to take it with me, but they have stated that there is no way it will be back for then. My question is can I request a refund - or do I have to allow them the 20 working days to repair it ?

What do the terms of the warranty state? Its over 6 months so for your statutory rights, you may need to obtain an independent report first.

Furthermore your statutory rights wont entitle you to a refund or to have your ipad back this weekend. It (SoGA) only states that a repair/replacement should be carried out within a reasonable time and without causing significant inconvenience.

What date did you give it to them?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

    Thanks for your quick response.
I took it in on 2nd April, so they are still within the 20 working day limit, I took the guy on his word that they'd have one for me within 2 weeks, otherwise I would have gone to the Genius Bar at Apple at some point within the last 3 weeks. I can find the receipt but not the warranty - will have a look for it.
