I spent £££ and hours spraying my weeds to no avail-best thing I've found is boiling hot water (add salt/bleach if not near other plants), pour this straight on to the weeds and they wilt before your eyes! Fantastic! Also then brush salt into cracks between paving slabs :-)0

Maybe annual weeds which are germinating after you've applied a glyphosate weedkiller which is neutralized by the soil?
You used to be able to get weedkillers for gravel paths etc. which persisted in the soil; IIRC the EU banned them.0 -
What type of weeds are you trying to tackle? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Sorry im just generalising as not an expert but definately dandelions and some nettles and obviously daisies which i class as weeds as i hate them lol0

I gave some dandelions out the back a 'drink' of boiling water from the kettle last week. No sign of them yesterday so I gave the ones out front the same treatment. They already look a bit brown and shriveled.
A friend uses vinegar/salt/ boiling water mix but you have to be careful not to get it on nearby plants.
Much safer remedies than chemicals.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

May I ask what weedkiller you used and how long you gave it to work?
In other words, are you saying you applied it a few days ago and it didn't 'work,' or are you saying that it killed the weeds but others soon replaced them?
As in all forum questions, precision is helpful.0 -
I've found the boiling hot water method works. Its just a bit arduous in view of the amount of "territory" I have to cover, as in quite a few kettles worth.
Must have a try at putting salt down afterwards and see if that deters them from coming back up again.
Mind you, I am talking about weeds in hard landscaping.
The weeds actually there in the earth I am taking to dealing with by hoicking them up and then leaving them lying there on the earth as a "living" (or rather dead) mulch to feed the soil and stop other weeds coming up (assuming they aren't bindweed - which I am a bit nervous about leaving lying around). But I've gathered its "the thing" to do this in the context of trying to things the permaculture and/or fashionable way. I'm guessing your tastes are different style to mine.0 -
And, of course, salt & vinegar contain no chemical constituents whatever. :rotfl:
:embarasse Yes, well you know what I meant don`t you. No nasty chemicals.........I mean you wouldn`t put roundup (or other similar products) on your fish and chips would you ?Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

But salt and vinegar aren't selective, either. If the salt kills weeds, it will kill the plants you want to grow as well.
I never found glyphosate not to work if applied properly.0
