Nationwide changing accounts

Hi, anyone with any help or advice for us before I try to communicate with nationwide?!
We had a flexi account, just the basic account, no overdraft etc.
now it's been changed to a ' cash card' account. They've not notified us of this, it's changed name on the online banking.
The big problem seems to be that now when I log in it shows all direct debits but doesn't name them, which is really annoying as although I know how much we pay people, sometimes the dd will be different and now I have no idea who it's to!
We have also tried to up grade to a flex account to get the travel insurance, breakdown and mobile phone insurance (£10 per month but worth it), but nationwide online keeps refusing.
Is there a way of contacting them without going through telephone banking. As we don't have that, just online.
Thanks.

Just to ask what debit card do you have on your account. If it is the purple cash card + visa debit one, then all a long you had a basic account.
For some reason they used to call all there accounts Flex Accounts even if it was a basic one.
They have now changed there system so that it correctly identifies what account you have.
Also if you were trying to upgrading to the £10 a month fee account its called a FlexPlus.
I think you will probably have to give nationwide a call to see if they can upgrade you as at the moment it seems it cant be done online.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
It might have changed now, but reportedly it used to be much easier to apply for a new account at Nationwide than to upgrade an existing basic account.0

Looks like there maybe something wrong with there internet banking at the moment as its throwing out this message, no matter which browser I try it on.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems accessing our account services at this time.
We believe the problem you may be experiencing is a compatibility issue with the operating system, device and browser combination you are using to access our website.
We aim to support all our digital services on the main browsers, operating systems and devices that our customers use.
Occasionally our services will not be available on particular permutations, e.g. a brand new/older browser and operating system versions or niche device. We recognise that this is inconvenient, but it's important that we test our services before releasing them to our customers to ensure the best and safest service.
If you wish to upgrade the browser version you are using, please access the link below, then click on the 'Updates' tab.

I can access my Nationwide accounts ok, all seems ok their (not there) end from what I can see.
OP, you should still be able to call Nationwide even if you aren't registered for telephone banking. 0800 30 20 100 -
Give them a call - from my recent experience their telephone people are friendly and effective.0

Thanks all, I've emailed a query, see what that brings up, if no good ill ring them. I don't expect them to allow us a full bank account due to my dreadful credit rating, although we have stated we don't want an overdraft, just the full bank account.
Anyway, I appreciate all your comments :-)0 -
Today, I also noticed that the direct debits on my flex account now only show a string of numbers in the description column. I was beginning to think that I was kidding myself that they ever showed more detail!shopaholic2 wrote: »The big problem seems to be that now when I log in it shows all direct debits but doesn't name them, which is really annoying as although I know how much we pay people, sometimes the dd will be different and now I have no idea who it's to!
The monthly pdf statement still gives the full details.
However this is not much use if you want to check a DD that has gone out that day. Presumably cross-referencing the numeric code will give the recipient, but a bit of a faff.0 -
Have you checked the transaction type column as that lists what type of payments you make i.e. Visa then in the description column it says where that payment is made.
For direct debits it says in the transaction type column direct debit, then who it is, and then in the description column the originators direct debit number.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0
