Quote 1 16 Canadian solar mono 250 panels, power one Aurora inverter, schletter fixings £5700

Quote 2 16 833 Solar Gallium mono 250 panels, power one Aurora inverter, schlepper fixings £6400

Quote 3 16 833 Solar Gallium mono 250 panels, 16 Enphase microinverters, schletter fixings £7400

Any help give would be gratefully received.

Don't know much about the panels in the 2nd & 3rd quote,

You really need to look at the issue of shading, for an installer to be quoting for micro inverters suggests something a little more than the depths of winter shading.

Canadians are popular, you could look at including a solaredge inverter and power optimisers instead with the quote, may take your price to around the £6500 marker though.

Again, check out the shading, if I've said it once i'll say it a hundred times on here, it DOES make a difference.

Did EVO Energy give any reason for suggesting the Sunpower 327 W panels? Usually they would only be used if there is not enough room for 250W panels i.e. you can still get 4 kW from twelve 327 W panels if you haven't got room for sixteen 250 W panels.

Perhaps this suggests there is some doubt that sixteen panels will fit.

I don't think there's any need for a voltage optimiser personally. As you'll be generating your own power for a good proportion of the year there's no need for this extra bit of kit(had a quick read up on it). I'm sure I've read threads on here about these being sold for excess prices to very gullible folk.

As Ed says...can you fit 12 or 16 panels? If 16 then your first quote at £5595 seems bang on. Forget the geo monitor, there are better out there(wattson solar plus). Unsure? Go to the renewables thread and speak to Oscargrouch.

It's a large detached house so 16 panels shouldn't be a problem. Think they are just part of their standard quote.

It was suggested that an owl would be the best (and cheaper) monitor. They said they don't promote it because it's not as user friendly but I think I could cope with that.

Not much difference between the first two quotes. Is there much to choose between the kit?

From what I'm led to believe, the owl is exactly that...a not so cheaper alternative. the wattson solar plus can be bought for £150 or less and has the advantage of being able to utilise optiplugs http://www.diykyoto.com/uk/aboutus/opti-range

first quote looks best, just keep to panels, inverter and fittings, you can add extra as and when you need them(incl the above)

As this is rather an unusual situation, maybe worth considering an unusual solution. Maybe crunch the numbers for a larger system, say sixteen 327 W panels giving 5.2 kW (or as much as you can cram on). The FIT rate is a little lower but with such an unusually high demand for hot water it may make sense.

Solar and Electrics Ltd of Worcester are offering twelve 327 W BenQ panels for £6849, can't vouch for them but it seems a good price.

Unusually high demand for hot water? Are you confusing threads.

    Hot water usage is low.

Sorry Ed...but where do you get that from, I've had a bottle of red wine but even re-reading nrsql's posts(several times) there's no mention of excessive hot water use?
