Help, please, in using the Quote function.

I'm having a bit of trouble inserting quotes when replying to a post.

I can do it when the whole post is the quote, but am having trouble singling out individual sentences or paragraphs. As I can't see what the quote looks like until I've posted my reply, I can't tell if it's right or not.
Even on the preview, it only comes up as the text with 'quote>' next to it, so I can't tell if it has greened up.

Can you help, please?

(My only computer is an iPad, so I don't have a mouse, just in case that's relevant.)

    See the example below. To 'single out' a piece of text highlight it and click quote.gif button. For the first quote I moved 
    [/QUOTE]
    from the end of original quotation to the end of the first sentence.

    Go to User CP
    make sure that "Enhanced Inteface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" is selected in the "Miscellaneous Options" at the bottom of Edit Options

    Make sure that there are no any add-ons blocking scripts in your browser.

    May I check the order in which I should do things, as I'm still having problems.

    If I want to reply to a post using a quote, do I click on 'reply' first, or on the quote bubble and then the text to be quoted?

    Well, it wasn't obvious, as it didn't seem to work when I did that, hence my request for help.
    Anyway, I think I may have worked out what I was doing wrongly, so hopefully I've got the hang of it.
