Advise on bedroom carpet

Hi all,
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area but I'm after some advise.
When buying my home almost one year ago, I decorated every room white. Since then (when I've had time) I've been going over each room and personalising it. I've replaced carpet for hard flooring throughout the whole flat expect the bedrooms, where I've still got the original carpet which is a sort of sandy colour. I've wallpapered a 'feature' wall and now can't decide which colour carpet to go for. I'm after grey, but can't decide between either a light grey or a charcoal kind of colour.
(Please click the link to photobucket to see picture below) I intend to get a tall headboard either in light grey or white to stand out against the wallpaper, but I'm just having a hard time choosing the carpet colour! Thoughts?

Too dark of a grey may make the room seem too dark. Get some samples and see what goes best? I think a silver/steel colour personally.0

Thanks for your reply, the main bedroom is east facing and is one of the darkest rooms of the flat, it only gets the sun in the morning! So you're very right in what you're saying about making the room dark. I was quite keen for a darker colour though because I thought it might hide the marks (that are inevitable) better as the sandy colour just shows them up. On the flip side, I've heard that dark colours show fleck more! Ugh, the decisions!
Thanks for the advise on the samples, I hope my local carpet shop lets me borrow some!0 -
its all about getting samples and lying them on the floor for a few days. Look at them during different times of the day. Morning, midday, dusk, nighttime. Look at it using natural light and artificial light.
That is the only way to really nail down what you like.
Cheap carpet with quality underlay works in bedrooms.
Once you do this with a few shades, what you want will become clear.
Lighter colours give a more spacious feel but need more vacuuming to look clean. Opposite for dark colours.
Its your place, so do what tickles your fancy.0 -
I have a light coloured carpet (pale green) and it shows dirt more, but not "needing hoovered dirt" , if you see what I mean? I clean for a lady who has a dark blue carpet, it doesn't show the dirt, but it shows up every stray hair, speck of fluff etc.. and even after being thoroughly hoovered it can look as if it hasn't been..based on my experience of the two I would go for the lighter colour, it's less likely to get dirty in the bedroom anyway, and it can be cleaned, but the darker colour which shows up every bit of flotsam and jetsam is going to drive you crazy with the hoovering imho..M.A.C.A.W member number 39

My choice would be a light grey colour. Charcoal will make the room look dark.0

You have to make the right choice when picking a grey carpet, as some look "dirty" and some look "cold";)
Although when I first saw your papered wall, the first thought that struck me was "a plum/grape shade for a carpet would look so rich and warm" with a lovely white headboard.:)
Hope I have not confused you even further.
The choice is yours.:DLooking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0
