Customs charge for ebay item

I doubt most people know about that and I've never seen it come up as an option on Ebay.
It isn't an option on ebay.
I don't know what you write, but you just have to get the sender to indicate on the parcel that the buyer wants to arrange the customs fee themselves and will complete the necessary documentation when it arrives in the uk.0 -
I sort of know what it is, I was just pointing out that most people don't and as it isn't an option on Ebay they wouldn't. The courier companies seem to take advantage of that and charge what they like.It isn't an option on ebay.

Dunno about TNT but Royal Mail will refuse to refund their clearance fee if the error is down to the sender, if it's a customs processing error it gets refunded. So the OP should avoid paying the TNT fee whilst appealing the charges, they won't chase her for it but they're unlikely to refund if she does pay especially if it's down the the sender's error.
You'll also find customs just ignore any items marked as gift these days if they have a receipt attached which most of the stupid sellers seem to attach :00 -
Hi all,
Thank you for all your help, I have sent TNT an email disputing the charges including the ebay invoice, I have no intention of paying them.
Thanks

About 3 years ago, I had a similar issue with TNT relating to an eBay item from the US. I wrote to them and stated that I could not consider paying the charge before they provided me with a copy of their contract for provision of clearance services on my behalf.
I did not hear from them again on this subject.0 -

customs and VAT charge is always the receivers problem. This is the reason why I buy from UK suppliers, as local tax is already paid for0

The EU is ok to buy from, not just the UK if you don't want to fanny with import charges.0
