Remove failed application due to error?

Hi All,
So one of my friends tried applying for a credit card and it failed - turns out one of his accounts has been erroneously reporting a default for the last couple of years.
He's applying to Experian and his bank to get this corrected - but can he also expect Experian to remove the negative footprint his new failed application will leave? Or will that remain on the file, despite only failing due to this error?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi
That will still remain on file.
It is an accurate that a search was performed. A single application isn't likely to have a major negative impact on future applications.
He may want to also check his equifax and callcredit/noddle files to check whether the error is replicated on them (and to ensure it is corrected).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I second that your friend should check all three credit files.
Thanks to a poster on another thread I've successfully had my HSBC AP markers removed from two of my credit files (I'm awaiting my letter to access my report with Experian) and whilst Equifax have simply left the account as settled, Callcredit have decided to "re-open" the account!
So it looks like I have a MasterCard with a £1,000 limit (when it was closed by HSBC in 2004!) on my file until Noddle settle my dispute. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

It simply leaves a footprint, it is not negative or positive, simply shows a credit application was made not the outcome.
As an application was made it will be left there. If he actually knows, rather than suspects, that this is the cause of the decline then get Experian to correct it and appeal the decision as soon as it is.0 -

Thanks for that, I hadn't thought about him appealing - probably a better way of doing things.0
