Hi,
I was issued with a default in 2000, which stayed on my credit file for 6 years and then dropped off.
I had been paying it off bit by bit, until a few months ago, where I reached an agreement for a partial settlement of the outstanding balance.
It has now re-appeared on my credit file with the balance being the discount I received, with an account status of 6 (Agreed repayments are more than 6 months behind but you have agreed new repayments with the lender to bring the account in order).
I thought that once a defaulted account drops of your credit file, then that is it, and it can't re-appear again. Is this correct?

Yes that is correct, once an account has been defaulted and dropped off your credit file then it should never reappear.
I would write to whoever is reporting to the credit reference agency to ask them to remove the entry as a default was registered in 2000.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
How was the partial settlement letter worded regarding the remaining balance?
Is it the same company reporting it?
Still, should not be back on your credit file. Complain, in writing, then refer to FOS if rejected.:beer:0 -

It says " We refer to your offer to pay a sum in settlement of your liability for your account and we confirm that your offer is accepted.
Once this reduced amount has been paid, where the account is recorded on your credit file, this will be updated as 'Partially settled' and not as settled or satisfied."
This was with the debt management company rather than the credit card company.
So, its just a letter sent recorded as a complaint, giving them 28 days to correct the error or I will report them to the information commission?0 -
Just write to them telling them to remove it or will be referring to FOS and reporting them to the ICO also.
They have 8 weeks to do so or you can refer to FOS at that point.
