not my thing at alll- MCDonalds.. did Media so i'm also looking at jobs in social media, updating blogs that sort of thing. but could do a customer service role cos i have the skills required.. Direct Line's process to apply looks hard.

Any decent job will have a strenuous application process - they want the best candidates. Attention to detail will be a key competency in the finance industry ;)

No sandwich year? It seems the doom of every graduate that in not impressing an employer before you graduate, it's very difficult to do so afterwards.

Microbiology hasn't gotten me any further in the world of work. I left my crappy min wage job to better my prospects and now I'm in an equally crappy min wage job.

On £15,000, you'll take home roughly £1100 per month.

Then on top of your rent you will be looking at council tax, gas/electric, water, TV licence, contents insurance, phone bill and maybe broadband. Plus if you have a car you will have all those expenses as well.

It should be enough to live on if you live a simple life, no extravagant spending or expensive holidays!

I would have agree and say, go for the First Direct job - especially if you can't find anything else right now. It may seem like a hard recruitment process but if you get the job, it will be so worth it. There's a lot of opportunity for progression ( they will encourage you as much as possible and offer you as much support as you need - if they're anything like their parent company where I work ;) ) and the pay is good. Like scaredofdebt above has said, within a couple of years, you can expect to get around £18k plus bonus and there's always overtime available.

There's no harm in trying. Good luck in whatever job you decide to go for. :)

Oh, I just want to add, that my starting salary was £16500 plus I get quite a few benefits so it's not a bad place to start.

    Another possibility is McDonald's.

Seriously - if you can get a McD franchise you could be earning serious money, but there's a lot of competition in that area. If you're hard working and determined enough though, very lucrative.

There is a mucky D's franchise for sale locally for 450k, plus the franchise fees and on-going costs, I agree it can be lucrative, but hardly an option for a new grad unless they happen to be sitting on a big inheritance.
