Wireless Satellite Receiver

I have a wireless satellite receiver in my upstairs bedroom which receives a signal from the Sky box downstairs. The receiver and tv are located next to the wall adjoining my neighbours house.
I've recently started to get interference on the receiver making it almost impossible for me to watch tv upstairs. I've tried various things like moving the receiver away from the wall and this has helped but not all the time.
I'm guessing the interference is coming from next door and I will speak to them about it but I just wanted to find out if anyone knew what could specifically be causing the problem so I also have some kind of idea when I speak to them.
Any help appreciated.

I never thought of that

I've used it for years and it's only been in the last few months I've had these problems. Incidentally, it is the daughter's bedroom the other side of the wall and when she isn't home it is fine.
Let me know what extra info you need and I'll do my best. - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
Have your neighbours started using powerline adapters/homeplugs for their computers? They are a nightmare at causing interference. Check also for laptop chargers or any switchmode power supplies. Another thing to check is have they bought a plasma tv ?Hope this helps0

Sounds like the TV \ Digisender. Previously had one a few years ago and it was always temperamental for interference from wifi, cordless phones , baby monitors and Microwave being on.. Most of these work around the 2.4ghz range so can be standard wifi - it may be that you or a neighbour have a device working on a similar channel..
might be an idea to check your device to see if it has any Dip switches on the sender\receiver so you can fine tune for any interference..
Not sure about 'speaking to them about it' as not sure either one of you has the 'right' to such a device being interference free.0 -
A Power Line Adapter is not supposed to be a wireless transmitter and has no licence for such - it's supposed to send its signals through the mains wiring. If it has turned the house into an illegal transmitter, I would be reporting it.Not sure about 'speaking to them about it' as not sure either one of you has the 'right' to such a device being interference free.0 -

Basically a powerline adapter is sending a signal into a non resonant antenna, which happens to be your home wiring system, hence it radiates a signal as far as 200m. We had OFCOM out to check our neighbours homeplugs, the engineer was astounded how far it radiated!0 -

Of course, I take this on board but if it's an easy fix then it has to be worth asking. As an alternative I may need to move my bedroom furniture around to have it all on the opposite wall!
Thanks for the replies so far. - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
But it could become tit-for-tat - what if the OP's digisender has been interfering with equipment in the neighbours house - since they are effectivelt broadcasting.. what if it is a new wifi access point being used somewhere. The worse interference I had was when the powersupply for the digisender was close to burning out..
Should the OP be donning the Tinfoil hat just in case in block out these broadcast?Moneymaker wrote: »A Power Line Adapter is not supposed to be a wireless transmitter and has no licence for such - it's supposed to send its signals through the mains wiring. True, have you checked if the sender has different channel numbers that you can use (usually a bank of 4/5 dip switches that can be adjusted on each unit so that it uses a clearer signal)..ellielovesem wrote: »Of course, I take this on board but if it's an easy fix then it has to be worth asking.
