Hi, I am with BG for my gas and electric. I need cover for my boiler in case anything goes wrong. Its just over a year old. Could anyone give me any advice on any good companies? Many thanks.

If you do a search on this forum you will find loads of threads on this subject.

BG are the big players on this. They are expensive and there are mixed opinions about them; some love em, some hate em. I have had them for years and have always found them to be excellent; I think it must depend on the part of the country.

BG have a couple of schemes - a 'fully comprehensive' package and a cheaper package where you pay for a call out.

I don't believe there is another Nationwide organisation with its own dedicated fitters. Most of the other schemes simply call out a local plumber and they(as is their custom) often try to tell you that particular fault is not covered.

In any case you really should have a annual safety check of gas appliances - it is mandatory for rented accomodation.

Some people will tell you to save your money, especially with a 1 year old boiler, and just pay when you have a problem. Others want an 'insurance policy' for someone to come out if you have a problem at the weekend etc.

Without doubt the best solution is to find an honest, reliable plumber who will turn out for an emergency - a rare beast though.
