What does this mean ?

Hi, I was looking at my online banking summary and there is debit card transaction for £1 with the description WM/ LIVERPOOL GB, now a few weeks ago I saw the same thing on my summary , I would not use my card to pay for something that cost £1, does anyone know what this could be ? Thanks.

Ask your bank who that is.

Sounds like you've signed up to some sort of subscription.

Did the £1 you saw a few weeks ago disappear from the statement or did you pay it?

£1 sounds like a test payment when you may have been looking to buy something higher and they are testing that the card is active. The £1 is then not collected but the actual amount is.

Did you buy, or consider buying, anything from the World Museum in Liverpool?

No I haven't tried to buy anything from the Museum, could it be anything to do with Morrisons Petrol do you think ? It was on Friday that I got petrol using my card at the pump and that is the date on this £1 transaction. I have just looked, that last one has indeed disappeared, think it actually could be Morrisons (William Morrison ) they must just do it when you buy petrol

Unless you bought a quid's worth of fuel (That's less than a litre!) or the transaction on your account isn't actually on your account (you don't say it is only pending), then probably not.

Call your card provider immediately you see a transaction on your account you do not recognise, let alone have authorised.
(But only transactions actually on your account)

It's probably petrol (WM=William Morrison?). Asda petrol make a test payment of £1 before taking the full amount...the pound is refunded. Have a chat with the bank to make sure though.

    No they don't.

A £1 transaction is reserved (To ensure the card is active) but held at pending. It is never collected, so it eventually falls off the pending transactions. The actual transaction amount is collected.

The £1 never appears on any statement, but some credit card companies do allow you to see pending transactions online ... but where this is possible, it is clear they are only pending.

Pending transactions do reduce your available credit balance.
