Ive gone from the regular braodband service to fibre broadband. BT came around and changed my main phone line socket to a new one thats needed for fibre. I have a extension socket in my living room that ive always used for my router, however BT would not put my another new socket in the living room for me.
My router is now on the floor in my porch and im getting firbre broadband using a wireless connection.
To be honest Im not happy with where my router is and would ideally like it behind my pc in the living room and connecting it directly to my pc rather than using wireless connection.
OK, my question.
Is it possible to buy the new phone socket that BT put in my porch? I would maybe like to buy one and take take off my extension socket and put it there, everything will be then neat and tidy.
Also if I can buy one, are they easy to fit?

My master phone socket is in the hallway but I have an extension from the hallway to my study where the router and computers are. I bought an RJ11 extension cable. If you only need the internet connection (and not phone)in a different room then an extension cable should be fine, the RJ11 connection will plug into the back of the Openreach Modem. The RJ11 cable is glued to the skirting board, I bought the cable on eBay, I think it was a 10 metre extension cable.
Strange that BT/OpenReach didn't want to install an extension, when I ordered Fibre with Plusnet there was a free option to have the internet connection in any room by means of an extension cable. All installations are carried out by OpenReach anyway, even for Plusnet customers.
What if I can't or don't want to use the master socket?
If your master socket isn't in a handy place (e.g. if there are no nearby power points, or it's in a garage or attic), the engineer can fit a data extension cable. This will let you install the fibre modem up to 30 metres away from your master socket. If you're thinking about this, try to pick the new location before the engineer arrives.

Right.
I think ive got a grey extension cable. BT gave me this because they would not put in another socket.
So this cable just plugs into the BT hub (im with Talktalk) right? I have a white box with BT on it and the talktalk router. and plug the other side into my pc, is that right? All the big powers they've silenced me. Depends on what sort of cable you have. You may have one that goes from your phone socket to the modem or you may have one that goes from the modem to the router. The conectors are different so it should be obvious. RJ11 2 wires (socket could take 4) goes from phone socket to modem and RJ45 4 or 8 wires from modem to router. There are less likely to be any problems extending the modem to router cable.0
