Sale of Goods Act query re: Lazyboy recliner

I'm asking this question on here first, prior to contacting the vendor, as a fault has developed on a chair which was bought almost exactly 3.5 years ago, in October 2010, so wanted to ask people on here think the Sale of Goods Act "up to 6 years" will apply to this.
The problem is that while the chair will recline as it's meant to, it's in its raised position that the back doesn't come up fully, so you can't sit in it properly like that without it doing your back in. I also moved the chair to see if it was possible to take the back off and put it back on, and while I can see how you do that, and have tried, it hasn't resolved anything. Also, I can see that one spring has fallen off, which I've saved in case I need it for proof, and a spring on the chair is sticking out the lower back.
Hence, it's basically no use to me in its current form.
Chances are, as it's Easter weekend, they won't be open until tomorrow anyway, hence why I've posted here first, but I bought the chair from Recliners Direct and while I appreciate wear and tear will be an issue, it's always been used for its normal purpose, eg. I don't have any kids to jump up and down on it like it's a trampoline.
Their current line-up of chairs they sell is below but it doesn't include the Gibson rocker which is the one I have.

Thanks for any advice.

i brought my lazyboys years back and they usd to give a 5 year warranty on the mechanism , have you checked that yours doesnt have the same?0
-
In the description of their Lazyboys via your link it seems clear that they give a 10 year warranty on parts and mechanism. Do you have your original receipt/paperwork so you can check that was the case when you bought yours - I would imagine so but of course we cannot be absolutely sure.0

I'll need to check my paperwork, but I don't remember discussing that with them at the time, and their website seems to indicate that the 5yr extended warranty costs extra.Country_Cousin wrote: »In the description of their Lazyboys via your link it seems clear that they give a 10 year warranty on parts and mechanism. I have the original paperwork, but where on the site does it mention 10 year warranty? I can't see that on the website.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
The chances are you have voided your warranty by taking it apart, not the thing to do when looking for a resolution under warranty.0

I've only attempted to take the back off. It's designed that way for transportation, so it can easily be separated into two parts - the back and the base (ie. the chair), so I've not voided the warranty.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. When you click on any of the chairs advertised for sale there is list of features for each chair
For example on the click through link for the Vegas Rocker it says
Patented Mechanism
Full side handle operation (no use of the legs required)
Rocker Recliner Mechanism
3 position footrest lock
Full chaise seating for total leg support
High Quality Leather upholstery
Full reclines but requires a space up to 18" behind the Chair to fully recline
10 Year Parts Warranty on the Mechanism and frame
Foam arms and foam back cushion for supreme comfort
Weight Limit 120kg (18 Stone)
Same on the Boston. I have not clicked on all, but assume they are all the same...0 -
Ah, cheers for that. I was looking on the main page.
I wondered why they sell an extended 5yr warranty, if the chair comes with 10 year parts and mechanism. However, looking at some other cheaper products, they only come with 12 month warranty so it looks like this is just a by-product of the site that pops up on every item page.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Although I have never bought a Lazyboy I have always considered them a fairly high end manufacturer and so I would expect a good warranty/guarantee/customer service with that brand. Although of course your retailer is your first point of call.
Let us know how you get on.0 -
Reading the website, they come with a 10 year warranty on mechanical parts on Lazy boys product. The 5 year warranty you have bought for £39 is for cosmetic issues, like, if you spill a drink on it and it stains, animal/human 'accidents' etc they will come out and sort it out. See below

If claiming under Manufacturers warranty, it is only the parts covered, callout is extra, for Lazy boys £60 callout
Glad I found this thread, have to take mum to get a new chair, as hers is falling apart. They are only down the road in Southport.0 -

Will do, ta. I've had a La-z-boy before, but that was from 2001 to 2010 so it lasted a lot longer before it showed any problems and/or was unusable.rustyboy21 wrote: »Reading the website, they come with a 10 year warranty on mechanical parts on Lazy boys product. Ta for the info. When I bought this one I paid the £50 for installation and to remove my old one, but they messed up originally as the delivery came on a Monday, he dumped it on my doorstep and then drove off. I couldn't get hold of them until the next day, and then someone came on the Weds to do what I'd paid the extra £50 for. They blamed a mix-up at their end, but on the plus side, they refunded the £50 when I complained, so that was worth the extra hassle
