Dyson Filter Change

I have a Dyson D14 which I bought about 5 years ago. It still works great but I've never changed the filter and I can smell a bit dusty as I'm vacuming.
I've read online of the two filters it has and how easy they are to replace. Is that something others do regularly? Should I being doing this?

The top one just clicks out and it's washable, it is located in the handle part of the bin, this is recommended every six months or so. The HEPA filter is allegedly a lifetime filter though I have just changed mine. It's underneath the collection bin and you need to gently pry the cover off with a screwdriver or something.
5 minute job to change both.0 -

Have you noticed a drop in performance by not cleaning the filters for so long?0

Yes although we don't have any pets and most of our house is laminate so it's been okay. It's only recently I've noticed a musty smell as the vacum expels the waste air. I was thinking of getting a new dyson then thought about the filters.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
The new Dysons aren't as well built and reliable as the older models, so do anything you can to prolong its life. We have a local guy who services ours every 2 yrs and has it working as new for £25.0

My ball Dyson has a filter in the ball, too! It's a pain to get at, so OH has to do it. Supposed to be cleaned once a month!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
