Pest Advice

Last summer we suffered 4 to 5 months of woodlice, carpet beetles and larvae in the living room and the bedroom above.

This year since the spring has arrived our guests have made a reappearance.

One of the things I have noticed is that there are a lot of gaps around the ceiling in the living room and along the skirting in the bedroom in question.

There also appears to be gaps under the window frames in both rooms.

We are social housing tenants and was wondering who is responsible to rectify this issue?

We are planning on decorating the rooms in the next couple of months. Would caulking solve this as part of the decorating process?

We've also found some woodlice in our dining room.

Anyone have any ideas why we're getting them??

As far as I'm aware there's no damp issues, but we do have some gaps between the floorboards and the skirting which are evident when I pull the carpet back.

    Any ideas?

Ha, yes I expected somebody might offer that clue. I was just hoping there could be another explanation as when we bought our house almost 2 years ago we had a damp company come out who told us we had no damp!

Anyway, while sanding our skirting boards in the dining room today, I took up some of the carpet the previous owners left and found a hatch in the floorboards.

On opening the hatch, there's some old water pipes and a stop tap. One of the pipes had a bit of water on it and the ground below was slightly damp. Hopefully this is the source of the problem and once I get the pipe fixed or tightened up the issues will be sorted - all of the surrounding wood was dry and solid so doesn't appear (fingers crossed) its widespread.
