Microsoft Outlook - Can this be done?

Hi there

I have Microsoft Outlook on my pc. I use if for quite a bit of stuff. But sometimes I wish it could be linked to my laptop as there are some evenings when I watch a bit of TV I would like to add or check info that I have stored in Outlook.

Is it possible for me to access the info on my laptop when the programme is stored on my PC?

Many thanks

And in one lesson, we see why web-based and IMAP-based email, which you can access from multiple clients, is preferable to the 1990s view of only using one computer embodied in Outlook.

You could use RDP on your laptop (the command is "mstsc") to run a remote desktop to your PC.

What you would then get is your PC in a windows on your laptop.

(Your PC does have to be switched on though!)

Does that include other content, such as appointments?

As the RDP etc. solution requires the PC to be switched on, an alternative is to have Office/Outlook installed also on the laptop. If the PST file on the PC is in a shared folder then you can use it as the default file for Outlook on the laptop.

Obviously you can't have Outlook on the PC and the laptop running at the same time.

Of course if the shared folder is on the PC then it needs to be on too, ergo ...

Oh, if it's just email you need to share (as opposed to appointments and so-on), then you can set Outlook not to immediately delete mails from the ISP mail server, and you can then configure Outlook on two computers and each will fetch the mail without knowing that the other has already done it. The downside is that you need to delete/mark as junk/etc. the mails twice.

I'm doing that at the moment as I'm transitioning from one computer to another.

I keep spreadsheets, calendar etc on my Windows mobile device. When I plug it into my laptop or PC it syncs with the machine, any updated files are backed up. Then plug into the other and Sally's your Aunt.

I'm told it will work with Bluetooth, although I haven't tried it.

Have a look at the Windows Sync Centre.

Or just use imap so Outlook is acting as a method to view the emails on the email provider's server, not grabbing them all for itself.

    Who's your email provider?
