John Lewis Partnership Card - Accepted?

Hi all,

I've applied and been accepted for a John Lewis Partnership card with a £750 limit. The online application check says they're delighted to say I've accepted and they've sent out the paperwork, which I've returned.

Does this mean I've been accepted and will receive a card? Anybody had an experience where they've said yes, they don't send out the card once paperwork has been returned?

Quite excited as this is my first ever mainstream credit card! (Closed Vanquis 6 months ago and closing Capital One at present)

  • I believe you've been accepted, although there is always the chance that they may change their mind - for instance: Some people with Barclaycard receive their card, only to be told their declined, although I believe this is a rarity. I believe this card is underwritten by HSBC if I'm correct, and if it's anything like the M&S card, then you'll be waiting for quite a while for your card and PIN based on my experience.

May I ask - giving your circumstances, why did you apply for the JLP versus other cards (e.g: Barclaycard Initial or for rewards card, I believe Asda Money is quite good) ? Are you a 'partner'?

However, congratulations on becoming 'prime'. Remember the golden rule of only purchasing goods and service, and paying off in full on every statement- to take advantage of the rewards program.
Good Luck with your application (you could always call them if you'd like to double check).
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!

When I got my JL card a couple of years ago I went through the same process - online confirmation of acceptance then paperwork.

As mac said though, HSBC do seem to take a while with their cards. I have M&S too and both it and JL took about two weeks.

First Direct is the exception though - their cards always arrive with me in 2-3 days.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

As a 20 year old student with no previous credit cards or overdrafts, for that matter, would I be able to open a John Lewis cc? Or is it best for me to open with a different company?

Just for anybody else who was in a similar position, I was accepted for my JL Partnership card and had a credit limit of £750 offered, 0% for 6 months and £10 JL/Waitrose vouchers.

So far, so good, I've already earned £8 of JL/Waitrose vouchers from my first statement!
