Netbook not recognising vodafone do gle

Hi I bought a Vodafone dongle and sim to use in my msi netbook. I previously used a 3 dongle with no problems ( lost it hence buying a cheap Vodafone to see me through the next week or so )
On plugging I the dongle it fashes to show there is a signal but nothing pops up on screen for me to be able to connect. I think its because my 3 is somehow interfering or blocking? I just assumed I'd be able to plug it in and go. Any advice on what it could be would be welcome.
I've checked and sim is inserted correctly.

Google "Vodafone Discovery". You may have to get the settings.0

Did you uninstall the 3 connection software beforehand and then reboot, before connection the new modem?0

No I didn't realise I'd need to I stupidly assumed they were all just plug in and play .0
