Cannot connect new wireless printer

Have googled and tried various things to no avail. Bought a Canon Pixma MG 3250 wireless printer so I can print off my tablet. When I go through the procedure I get the message "New port could not be created 0000".
Have uninstalled and tried again to no avail. Is it anything to do with the modem being connected to computer by ethernet cable?
I already have a printer set up. Please keep in mind I am not an experienced user. Am on Windows 8.1.

    It could be.

Firstly, by "modem" do you mean a wireless router? If that device can't do wireless then you'll have to buy something which can.

Then, if it is a wireless router, is wi-fi switched on? You'll need to access the router's admin function which is a whole little ballgame all of its own and while the principles are common, the details differ depending on make and model. Post again if you need help with that and someone might be able to help.

Then you'll probably need to know your wi-fi network's name and password.

Or of course the problem might be caused by something else.

  • You'll need the canon software on the tablet. If that's not possible, printing wirelessly will not be possible, I suspect.
Nothing to do with Ethernet cables. Its a wireless printer.
    What 'computer'?
Nothing to do with modems. It's your router that is significant. They may be one in the same of course, only you can state that.
It you don't have a wireless router then you cannot print wirelessly, as it is the bridge between devices.

    Hope this info helps.
    Friendly greeting!

Good, that'll help people to help you.

Do you know how to check whether its wi-fi is switched on?

Completely uninstalled the Canon software and installed drivers from their website. Now the printer works with my PC but does not seem compatible with Nexus 7
