Could you just clarify this bit for me OP - what sort of grunge was coming out of the wound?

None of this would have happened if they'd had the dog Alice, in Chains in a kennel and not in the Soundgarden. Still, hopefully the OP is now in Nirvana, perhaps after some Therapy?

Not sure if this is a serious question :p but it was apparently the fat from under my skin, eww.

Thanks for all the replies, changed the dressing today and it seems to be healing well, very bruised but no signs of infection :)

Hope you are taking Arnica homeopathic tablets- brings out the bruises and aids the healing process. If you don't have any they are widely available at Boots etc.
    Take care

if the police or the law wont do anything its perfectable acceptable to claim through civil law. contact a reputable 'no win no fee' solicitor. they will tell you if the owner is liable. and a court action might well change their irresponsible attitude.
I would have been so upset if any of my dogs bit someone. you were only doing your job and the owner should have made sure the dog was under control. I cant believe they were so dismissive of you.
take photos of the bite. and write down everything that happened and what was said ASAP.
I hope your injury heals well OP.

I wouldn't bother with homeopathic arnica tablets......you'll get as much active ingredient in those as drinking a cup of sugary tap water!!!

What you should do though is purchase arnica ointment with real, active ingredients in it.

    Just take the tablets!
Wonder why doctors recommend taking the tablets both before and after an operation???!! They can't all have shares........

    Please google how homeopathy works.

The theory is that the more you dilute something the more potent it gets, oh and shake it about a bit in a special way and low and behold the water somehow has a memory of the now non existent active ingredient.......which we all know is completely ludicrous.

And no doctor has ever recommended homeopathic pills to me!

Read the part on potency scales, if nothing else:

Well I was told to continue taking the tablets when I was having an operation on my wrist a few years ago by the resident doctor and my friend's daughter was advised to take them after a C section!
I am fully aware how homeopathic drugs are made.

It's in your opinion they are not worth taking.

There are even vets who prescribe homeopathic remedies these days!

I suddenly remembered about Tincture of Arnica which came in a poison bottle (sadly no longer available) and......Arnica ointment, gel , cream is of no use in this instance, for a dog bite
    I quote from Nelson's info:
    Active Ingredients
    Arnica montana
    Directions
Apply gently to bruised areas. Do not apply to cut or broken skin.
