In October 2012 I switched to Scottish Power after they told me my payments would be £89 per month. in March 2013 I became a few pounds in Debit and as I entered my reading I was told my payments would increase to £127. I have paid this since March 2013 I am now £157 in credit but on entering my readings on 10th April nothing came up to reduce my payments. I have messaged Scottish power but have not received a reply. It is amazing how they can immediately increase Direct Debit but do not do the same the other way around. Has anyone else had this problem and how do I get my payments reduced?

Have you phoned them up and asked for the debits to be reduced? Phone during the morning if you can. It's free from a landline.0

Well I have tried ringing for two days now on hold for hours. They have today answered my on line message by not giving me a refund, now £256 in credit but reducing my monthly payments to £30 which I do not want.0

Sorry, but this is total nonsense. Give the supplier an up-to-date meter reading and get them to produce a bill/statement using it.
Otherwise suggestions of being in credit are meaningless.
Then, and onlythen, I'm sure there is an MSE article to advise how to get your DD set to an appropriate amount and/or get a refund of accumulated credit.
Oh, and btw, no service user can immediately raise a DD - they need to provide you with proper advance notice which is usually 10 working days plus postage time unless agreed otherwise with you in advance.
e.g. with EDF, it typically takes about 2 months before they change a DD, as by the time they know what to change it to and they have given you the required notice, the first month's DD has often already been collected0
