Fidelity vs Cavendish Online

  • I've been reading this thread with interest as I have investments with Fidelity and am always looking a better deal. Cavendish online seem to offer this.

However, I use the excellent Fidelity iPad app and the OK iPhone app and I am interested to know if these are available to Cavendish online customers.

Also, whilst very limited at the moment, Fidelity have negotiated a few fund discounts (a couple of which I already hold) and these do not appear to apply to customers of Cavendish online.
  • Thanks to everyone for all the information on this thread. I'm with Fidelity but have just logged in via Cavendish, which does give a total return on 'a new dedicated page'. Am now printing the forms to switch to them.

I'm amazed that Fidelity and Cavendish haven't made more of the discounts as they're quite good. Decent discounts off 66 funds rather than the 57 discounted funds that Hargreaves Lansdown have loudly trumpeted, plus 70 lower cost Invesco Perpetual class Y funds (which I think HL may soon be offering too).

The IP class Y funds are offered to Cavendish clients once you login even though their website still shows the class Z funds and as far as I know all the discounts on funds (listed here) are available too.

Each fund listed has a link to give details of the charges through the funds-supermarket which afaik is a similar page for direct customers of Fidelity and those using intermediaries. This one is the "UserChannel=Adviser" link for the Aberdeen World G&I fund. As you'll see it refers to "your adviser" and gives details of the 0.250% service fee and the 0.375% fund discount.

I did ask Cavendish but their reply wasn't definitive so to avoid any possible confusion I'll email them again, though I'd be surprised if their clients didn't get the discounts.

Sorry, don't use or know about the phone apps so you may need to ask if it's critical for you.

I appreciate you may want things in writing, but I have found Cavendish always quick to answer the phone, and usually have the answers. I get the impression that Cavendish Online may be two people and a telephone, but none the worse for that.

They do but specifically ask "Use the email address in preference to the telephone, wherever possible. We will adhere to respond within 1 working day".

As they run on shoestring with tiny fees, that seems a reasonable request to make as it helps them to keep their charges low and usually preferable to get non-urgent clarifications in writing any way.

OP: did you move to Cavendish?

Sorry to derail slightly but whereabouts is this page located? I'm struggling to find out any returns information on my portfolio. I've been in touch with Fidelity who say it is not possible with them - it can only be found out via Cavendish. I've contacted Cavendish who have told me that it CAN be done on the Fidelity website if I clear my cookies and log in as a personal investor. Neither of these things worked. I've tried logging in via the Cavendish website as well but no luck.

The closest I've come is finding the difference between "amount invested" and "valuation as of today" which is a pretty crude measure! And even then, that is only visible if I go on the mobile website (thanks to the earlier poster for bringing that to my attention!).

    Anybody able to help? :)

When you log-in to Fidelity are you presented with a screen where you have to select 'as a private investor' or 'as an advised investor' ? If so, then select the private investor option and you will be able to see P&L etc.

I have both advised and private funds with Fidelity so maybe you don't get this option if everything you hold is through an adviser.

I only get profit details for my ISA. For the SIPP they only seem to give total value - unless I am missing something?

No I don't get that screen. I have the "personal" tab at the very top right corner which has a drop down with "investing personally" and "investing with an adviser". Clicking either of them lets me log in but ultimately takes me to the same dashboard :S Must be because of the reason you stated. It's not the end of the world as I'm purely a passive investor anyway, but would still be nice to have. Thanks for replying though.
