Could I ask your opinion of this little grow house please?
Hi all, I have a small garden, and I would like to have a little greenhouse for propagating and other bits and pieces. Not intending to grow much in there really, but maybe a tomato or two!
I am in Ireland, and I saw this on an Irish website today. I love it! Perfect size for the tiny garden. By our expensive cost of living standards here, the price is good too!
I just wondered if the wooden shelving will allow enough light in? It will be placed against a West facing wall. Plenty of sun (when it shines that is!).
What do you think? Any other comments?
Thanks very much.

I think it would be perfect for growing either cucumbers or tomatoes. I grow one cucumber plant in a growbag inside a plastic green house with great sucess.
With regards to the price, if you are happy to pay that then its fine. From the description it appears to be well made so it ought to last for years.0 -
It looks very well made. My first thought was - if you want to grow tomatoes you'll have to be careful what type as the shelving means that there's not too much height for them to grow.
My next thought was - do you actually need the storage next to the greenhouse. If you do, it's perfect, but if not, you're paying for something that's not exactly what you need.
It really depends on your needs. I must admit, if it was me, I'd have to swallow hard before paying so much for what is really a very small amount of greenhouse space. It says it fits one growbag across the bottom - that's not much at all really. I'd be looking at the much cheaper ones such as this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garden-Greenhouse-Green-House-Shelves/dp/B000288D2C/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1397936880&sr=8-7&keywords=mini+greenhouse
but I do admit the one you've shown is much classier.
I wouldn't worry about light. One of my greenhouses is against a wall and the veg in there is just as good as the one in full sun.0 -
To be honest I think if it were simplified it would be even better for tomatoes or cucumbers. The shelving isn't needed; a growbag in the base and no shelving would give you ample room for growing tomatoes; equally I wouldn't be bothered about the cupboard at the side.
So, in effect, what I'm advising is a sort of vertical coldframe!
This one's 100Euro more but you could easily get a great crop of tomatoes and cucumbers in growbags in this - and get in there to water them,!

Thanks all for your help.
I would love a lean to greenhouse. But the only wall I could put it against is North facing and only gets sun for about an hour in the Morning. I don't think that would be too good!
The side walls of the garden are too low for a 7ft high lean to. We are, by planning regs limited to 6ft high walls. I should therefore, look for a low lean to!
I could, of course get a proper greenhouse. But they are so expensive. And it would take up most of the garden. But that is my decision I suppose.
Maybe I'll try the one I mentioned in OP. and branch out at a later point?
Thanks Again. Love this board, and I lurk a lot!0 -
I have a very good polycarbonate greenhouse which has a cold frame on top. The shelves can all come out and it is than tall enough for tomatoes as there are shelves in between that and the base. It is freestanding and I have had mine for 4 years and would buy it again. There are several adaptable shelves and I use the bottom for winter storage. It is really good

I don't really see the point in the wooden greenhouse, its not really tall enough, especially as the shelves look fixed in position.
As for plastic covered greenhouses - be warned they don't keep frosts out.
I'd go for a polycarbonate greenhouse, you should be able to get something half decent for the same money as the wooden one.0 -

My solution, a small cold frame and grow your tomatoes outside.
And being mean, I think they are overpriced.0 -

I have one of these but it is now in a heap after it was blown over yet again. It was well fastened down and had large walling stones around the base but it still finished upside down. The frame is now badly mangled but the cover is usable,
