My sister has applied for legal aid as she was the victim of domestic violence and has required a non molestation order and residence order. Her solicitor told her what to provide ans she did. She has had a letter stating that the application has been rejected as she has not provided a statement bit she was not told to and has no idea what the statement is for or about. Can anybody help?

She would need to speak to the practice involved; this may be a police statement, one from a statutory or NGO, or one from your sister, to name but a few.0

Thanks. What is an NGO?0

Surely her solicitor is the person to help?
Who was the letter from?
NGO = Non Governmental Organisation0 -
She will of course speak with her solicitor but due to the hols we were trying to find out as.much as we could asap. She.provided all info that the solicitor told her to so that is why it is a surprise to have received the letter. It was from whoever decides on whether to award legal aid. We would have thought that the solicitor should have known that a statement was required.0

I don't think you will be able to find out anything until your sister gets in touch with her solicitor.
Didn't the letter say what sort of statement your sister needed to provide? It seems strange that they would have just written (for example) 'Legal aid is denied because you did not provide a statement' without saying what the subject of the statement should be.
I too would have thought that her solicitor should have ensured that all necessary documentation was provided to substantiate her claim.
He's her first stop for more information.0 -

That is emergency orders and does not apply to the residence order, and does not cover legal representation.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
