    Pray tell. How?

SolarImmersion sell thro' Ebay as well as other outlets. On Ebay the price is £220 (free delivery) but also has Buy-it Now/Best Offer price.
I offered and paid £195. Trust that helps !!!

    Thank-you for the answer.

I am guessing you mean the seller t-sassociates. I saw them in the past but I figured I would be hiring an installer anyway, if I bought one, who would get a wholesale price and only pay 5% vat so amounting to about the same price. I also worried about the warranty from an ebay seller as they don't have the best reputation for reliability.

I would really like an immersun 2 but the solar immersion installers quoted about 260 pounds installed while immersuns are nearly twice that. Keep thinking they will invent something better, especially one that can cope with over 4kw, but not yet.

Well done you though. Particularly if you are savvy enough to install it yourself you have done well and will get an easier roi.

(I notice incidentally that some buyers got him down to 180 but perhaps they were personal friends or just got lucky).

Thanks again, always nice to know I'm not missing out on something...
  • Hi

I am having my home refurbished with new solar pv installations. Am considering getting a power switching device. Could someone suggest a good switching device?

    Hi

I am having my home refurbished with new solar pv installations. Am considering getting a power switching device. Could someone suggest a good switching device?

    Regards
There are two main types of switching devices:-

Those which proportionally control their output to match the spare PV power and those which switch on the full load when there is sufficient spare power available to drive the full load.

Usually the second type can be purchased and installed by the home owner. The disadvantage is that if, say, you have a 3kW immersion heater and only have 2.9 kW spare then none of it will be diverted to the immersion.

The proportional type would divert 2.9kW. You would therefore be able to use any spare power up to the 3kW power of the immersion. These switching devices cost more, but offer potentially more savings. They need to be installed by a competent electrician. Because of my background in electronics and electrical installation I was able to design and build my own version of this.

I've got Solar iBoost - much cheaper than other models and seems to do the job very effectively.

I got SolarImmersion at a damn cool price and its performing well like what Dave explained about the proportional type. Now it has got even cheaper at 189 bucks plus a 3% discount with this coupon code -

That price is plus VAT & Delivery, so really it should be £235.80 (assuming you're in normal delivery area), or if the code works for you then it's £229.

Just found out owl intuition-pv doesn't work with these things :(
Might have to lash out for Wattson, but everyone seems to have sold out!!!

My SolarImmersion unit is now installed and working fine.

I have also installed a Wireless thermometer on the Hot Water tank to allow me to know when or if I need to use the manual boost in the event that the solar PV fail to heat up the tank in poor weather conditions. The Wireless Meat thermometer cost £11.99 - cheap and works like a dream.

Would be interested to know how you've done this?

    I have something similar.

My 'wireless meat thermometer' came from eBay and consists of two units. One is the receiver & display unit that I stand in the kitchen, the other is a probe connected to a transmitter unit. My immersion heater has two thermostat pockets so I've removed one thermostat and replaced it with the probe.

For anyone who hasn't got a 'spare' pocket, you could just insert probe below insulation against wall of tank.
