I'm currently with Eon for dual fuel and the FIT scheme. If I change supplier for electricity and gas do I have to change the FIT agreement over to the new provider too if they're on the scheme?

Comments

  • Someone may correct me, but I think the FIT is for the fixed length of the contract with your chosen provider, no matter who you switch your supply to...

No, you don't have to change. I've had my panels for more than 3 years and although the FiTs remain with the original supplier, I have changed energy provider twice since then.

They're run entirely separately from your supplier billing. All the compulsorily participating suppliers have to offer FIT's, and that includes all the Big Six.

FIT is a completely separate arrangement. If you moved your main supplier it would not automatically move your FIT arrangement unless you made a separate agreement with the new supplier to administer your FIT (unless such an agreement was buried in the small print of the transfer).

However, your existing supplier may not want to administer your FIT if you don't have your supply contracts with them. IMO, the big suppliers only do FIT because the rules say they have to administer FIT for 1) their own customers and 2) any customers of smaller suppliers who don't have to offer the service.
If you move your supply from one of the big suppliers to another, your existing supplier may say that you must move your FIT contract as well, since they are no longer obliged to administer it.

You can use a completely separate FIT provider if you wish, for example good energy or ecotricity, both of whom actively want FIT contracts rather than being forced to accept them by the regulations.

    Morning Allan87,

Already some excellent advice here :)

As others have said, you can change supplier for your gas and electricity to whoever you like and this won't affect your FIT agreement.

There's a page on our website, that will give you some more info if you need it.
