Wages gone down so has tax credits

I am so confussed
Hubby has recently got another job, his past 2 temp jobs paid about 17K per yer, had they lasted a year. His current job is WAY below that, he is on minimum wage, and it is a struggle. I did the usual change of circumstances with HMRC and told them his wages.
Last time he was working, we got about 160 WTC, pm just recieved award letter today, he will be getting undr 60 pm....can this be right? We are waiting to see if we will get help with HB and CTB. Have looked at several benefits calculators all say he should be getting more. Does this sound right?
Quite frankly, we are getting to see why some people don't bother working when all that is out there is minimum wage jobs. seriously, why should he bother getting up and dawn working his !!! off for crap pay? by the time we pay out to keep roof over the kids heads, his fuel, too far to walk or cycle, all the other motor expenses, we are lucky if there is enough to go do half a weeks shopping

  • Tax credits is not about his yearly wage, but is about actual income received. Last years award would have been based on income for 2012/13 to start with, then when he got a temp job, you revised the estimated income and if that was lower or higher by more than the disregards, there would have been a change im the award - but if the change was less than the disregards, there might not have been. So potentially there may be an overpayment, which could why it has gone down. Check any paperwork from last year and see what was on last page. Has he received a p60 yet? If so does it show all his earned income? Post both last years 12/13 & 13/14's income figures on here & some who knows how it works will try and work it out for you.
