O/S Daily Saturday 19th April 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

JackieO - Good to hear you're on the mend, don't over do it though! x

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, but very dull and overcast, looks like it could rain.

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early. I’ve just got up so I’m enjoying a peaceful cuppa whilst browsing on here.

I’m working this morning too, tried to give it away – but as it’s a holiday weekend, no-one wanted it so I’ve got to work it – we’ve not been away at Easter for the last few years and DH has worked most of them so doesn’t really make that much difference to me. Looking forward to a lie-in tomorrow and Monday morning though.

Got the jobs we needed to do done yesterday – once DH got in from work. I got to the SM early and it was lovely – hardly anyone in there and the shelves all fully stocked, so I was able to get everything I wanted. Visited the outlaws yesterday too, went to my parents but they were not home, so spoke to them last night and me and the boys are going this afternoon, and the boys are going tomorrow for lunch (DH and I had already made a commitment for tomorrow) – DH doesn’t want to come tonight as he says it’s too late for him by the time we eat. My sis and her children from away are staying with my parents for a few days and my bro is staying at my other sis’s tonight so we’ll be able to catch up with everyone. In the past I’d have said we wouldn’t be able to go, but don’t see why the boys and myself should miss out seeing my family. DH would get quite nasty and be quite difficult if I wanted to go see family it would be easier to just say we couldn’t go, but now if I want to go I’ll go he can stay at home on his own. He’s been like this since before the more recent problems within his own family. DH’s family are rather fragmented – DH and his sis don’t get on, his mother and father haven’t seen the daughter’s 10 year old son for over 6 months, his mother hasn’t had anything to do with her father (DH’s granddad) for the past 2+ years because he got some money from another relative’s will and MIL had been advised wrongly by a Solicitor that the money would go to her and her bro and sister. Granddad is in his 80’s self sufficient, still living in his own bungalow, driving, cooking, cleaning and goes out 2-3 times a week either racing or seeing friends etc. I know DH is very upset with his mother for how she has/is treating her father – he really hasn’t done anything wrong. She’s just so money orientated, she can just see pound signs in front of her eyes.

Sorry that turned in to a bit of rant ……………………………. And breathe!

Have an enjoyable Easter Saturday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

What a glorious morning it is here. I've taken a cup of tea back upstairs and am lying in bed watching the tide and the geese flying around. I love my new life!

It's so good to read Jackie's news - welcome home.

Seems that most family feuds are all about money, so sad. The turn of fate in my family means that my only sibling and my father are both now dead so there's only me left. So no rows, but I'd rather have my brother back I suppose.

Today is going to be clearing out yet more packing boxes from the spare room. The new mattress has arrived (no bed frame ) and I need the space. Also need to paint the mailbox as it's rather manky. Nothing to buy though I will be looking for a wooden bench outside the front of the house.

Think I need to feed the birds. Would love to start tackling the garden but there are so many more pressing things to do inside.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend. Chocolate all round.
  • Good morning nmlc and all who follow :)

Another lovely day here and have some overnight washing on the line, with another load in the machine. Will strip the bed as soon as DH gets up, then that can go in too.

DD and DGD are coming for dinner tomorrow so need to go and get some shopping for that. Am thinking of roast lamb and the A shop seems to have an amazing deal on large legs of lamb, would be nice to have some left overs for the freezer.

Was looking at bags of stones yesterday for the front garden. I currently hate the paving but it would be expensive to replace so was wondering about covering it with stones. DH thinks it's a stupid idea and he is probably correct, so back to the drawing board :o

JackieO - it's lovely to see you posting and being so well looked after by your family. Take care, rest up and keep healing x

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,

Beautiful bright day here, wm is going its thing and it will be hung on the line soon, need to drop dd at work this morning. OH is at the boot sale once he gets back we will pack some sandwiches and have a ride over to see if the asparagus lady has any in yet, its a tiny beautiful village in the middle of nowhere and she grows the most beautiful asparagus and sells it for £2 a bunch, we will take the dog for a walk too.

Dinner tonight will be roast chicken mash and salad and the same for tomorrow, I do have a leg of lamb in the fridge so will fit that in at some point, but I don't fancy spending all day tomorrow cooking.

Have good days all and enjoy the sun of you have it.

    Morning all,

Didn't sleep very well so will be tired all day.
The bathroom is coming on and it's looking good, but I won't be rushing to the next job. Dh is like a bear with a sore aris when he's doing jobs, I won't be asking him to do the stairs and landing which need doing, if you can't do it with good grace don't bother.
Nmlc don't families get complicated we are all going to the lakes in June, 21 of us:eek: be blooming amazing if someone doesn't have a row.
I'm grumpy this morning, shall take myself off and come back in a better mood.
Glad to see you posting JackieO we've missed you

  • Morning all have been lurking on and off for ages. Am really going to try and start being more OS.

So today I have finished my washing pile, all on the dining table waiting to be put away (just in time for DD14 to come back from her nans with another bag, DM smokes so even though she will have washed her clothed DD will want them washed again
Got a veg based stew in the slow cooker - tink I might make it a fish stew.

Off to football in a little while, having to drive as trains not running....

So not a lot of OS today, hope you all have a great day, sending you all hugs if you need or just want one

Bright and sunny here first thing, but I think it's going to cloud over.
Hugs to Molly, JackieO & LW.
No idea what mood my beloved is in today, but it's not looking good, he probably is suffering from BD, I don't think it's anything I've done.
I shall go out later to get some bread rolls & some lamb for lunch, Mr Grumpy can watch the allotment challenge & the GP qually, I'll do some more sewing.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for all your birthday wishes. Had a lovely afternoon with DGD. OH was back from New York which was lovely too.:T Went out for dinner with friends last night, really good. OH is still asleep, jet lag catching up with him:rotfl:

Just printed off Mary Berry's recipe for lamb shoulder, although I've got a leg to do for tomorrow. It looked great when she did it on TV so going to try it.

(((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) to JackieO and Molly hope you are both feeling better.

Quiet day today methinks, chaos tomorrow!

    Morning :)
Walked Luna this morning and boy it was chilly!!!! Sun clouded over and it was positively cold with the breeze.

My SIL and her partner are coming down to Bath so they are popping in for a visit and brining eggs for the kids.

Got washing to sort out and the usual tidy. Might see if I can persuade everyone to go for a walk later
Fingers crossed DS is in a better mood today, seems to be so far.

Pizza for tea. Might look at my meals plans as they aren't inspiring me at the moment :o

Hugs and spoons all round xx have a lovely Saturday.

Another bright and sunny day here, but a sharp breeze. Bacon Butties being provided by the rally shortly, so this will be quick.

On the subject of Mary Berry, looked in Aldi, Asda & Lidl not found any redcurrant jelly, Mr G00gle says Tesco has some, might need to call in.

((Hugs)) LW, Molly, Jackie-0, and HH for a grumpy DH, and Bitsy for a grumpy DS.
    Take care everyone. DG
